In BF2, there is the option of using SHIFT to sprint as well as double tapping forward. Could the SHIFT be for walk instead? Why walk? Well, it helps when walking into an ambush when you move in slowly – And without needing to crouch like some idiots. Also, groups are more cautious and protect each other better if they walked. What’s more, it looks good visually. If they CAN walk though, they shouldn’t hold their rifles in front of them like some hard-on, but perhaps across their chest. Subs and support rifles should still be held in front, but not rifles. Of course, it would help the team work if tanks, trucks and so on could also move at slower or faster speeds as was described in another thread. Then we could really have a disciplined army to contend with…
Such feature would be nice, yes, but I'm afraid there's no animation for this in Battlefield 2, therefore it'd have to be done by the devs. In such case it's rather low priority. Besides, it's not very comfortable to double tap the foreward key everytime you want to sprint. And still, croushing does work well, if you want to ambush someone (while I belive that your enemy does not bother werther you'll walk or run "into an ambush":P).
Actually, isn't there a walking animation when you move while looking down the sights? Maybe devs could edit those a bit. I don't know how useful, with battlefield's gameplay, this would be though
I think you're right, still though, that would require different animation for weapon handling, as the normal running one wouldn't fit anymore.
There is no "walk" movement key in BF2 as in BF1942?! bah!
If you want to go slow you either:
a) use sights while you move
b) move crouching/proning
c) drive any British tank
Why do you need yet another way to go slow?
a) Imagine seeing a well organised group of German soldiers moving in a pack, covering each other - Then wait, why the heck are they are looking down their sights..oh, okay they can't wait otherwise...And why's the tank Stop-Go-Stop-Going...Oh, it'll run over people otherwise. That's the only way it can stay at par with the group b) They'll all stupid unless they were sneaking up on someone c) If all but trucks and cars are closed for enemy teams in BF2, then the Brits would have an unfair advantage thanx to Crappy Technology. Besides, walking does help for groups to watch each others back and for team play especially when you have a mixed group of war vehicles, transport vehicles and infantry - Breaking up to execute sensible and smart strategies is also best coordinated when everyone is close by - Hence walking.

And you've got to admit it- If you can picture it, it'll look tres cool

I'm sorry, I'm not going to go walking in the middle of a bloody battle. You walk when theres no combat going on (or shelling) people tend to have this instinct for shelf preservation, taking cover crouching making a smaller target.

I'd laugh if I saw a group of players "marching" in the battle field then hit them with what ever I've got. You need to remember that in the maps the battle is already well under way. Very little marching or walking should be taking place.

I don't really find this vaild, the devs have always put in suitable transportion for both sides. Would you rather have the Germans with primarily horse drawn carts since most of their divisions weren't motorized?
I think walking is needed. What if a clan wants to make a movie? You said that you would have to animate it, but couldn't you take the animation of walking from 1942 and port it to bf2?
