Is it just me, or does anyone else get nightmares of yet another Aberdeen-like map from this thread?

RexRaptorOh come on, pure tank battles existed in history, especally in WW2, It would be a great map.

No? When and where? I am nowhere near convinced. Combined arms is the name of the game, and I don't think tanks only would be a good idea.

Too narrow of enjoyment for all. Reminds me of Battle of Britain.

Well I have never liked the Aberdeen map, but there have been regular (FH that is) maps which boiled down to tank vs tank (when the planes were gone) and they were among the best I had ever played. Vali, Storm (at least until you destroy the first line), even el al and breakthrough. Goodwood is a good example of a fun tank map and people like it! Maybe make a goodwood in the sand version!

I could like the idea if at least there were some artillery and repair/ammo trucks. Unlike maps whit (almost) only planes or ships, where it's justified since a normal soldier just can't fly or travel the ocean all by himself, in this case there should be no serious problem for soldiers on foot to follow tanks. So I think there should be at least a couple more possible positions than just tanking, in BoB you have an objective as Axis and can use AA artillery as Allies, in Rheinuebung there's not only ships but also the possibility to use recon planes, so maybe having a few field guns or adding anything else you wanted that could give some extra challenge, could make this map idea appealing to more people.

I say make the map for 1945 + if you play Americans V germans then give the american a couple M26's and M36's and 76mm shermans more than the 75mm versions with some jumbos. Germans some panthers 2 tigers and a King tiger with P4H's?

one thing that should be avoided on tank maps is the bottlenecking and make them HUGE. Last night on aberdeen there were about 3 key positions per side, all within view distance of the next position! Something like el al (without the bottlenecks) where you could actually flank the enemy with a supperior force and break through.

Well there is already an awesome tanking map that was taken out, called Tundra. I had so much fun playing this map, alone you die, hunt in packs and you can do serious damage. It's a pure tanking map. Check it out.
