Edit Control.ini

Open control.ini. You can either enter "control.ini" into the run box, or search for the file on your system. If you can't find the file, try unhiding all files. Enter the applets you want to hide under "[don't load]." Find the name of the applets by running find and searching for "*.cpl". This will search for every file ending in .cpl, which is the extension for control panel applets. If you want to know which file goes with which icon, just click on it to open it. Once you find the one you want to remove, enter the full name of that applet and set it equal to no. For example, I would enter "joy.cpl=no" to hide my joystick icon. Save the file. Your new settings will take effect next time you start your computer.
