Well I have to go out on a limb here and say that over all I agree with Beast of War that the new flight physics are a lot more responsive, the aircraft damage model seems far more realistic, and that overall it is a lot easier and more fun to fly than in .61  Now I must say it is great to be back ingame again... As you may or may not have known I moved at the end of August and my computer got banged during the process which lead me to having to buy a new CPU, then a new Motherboard, then a new Powersupply and finally formatting and reinstalling Windoze before I was back in action. Anyways, my point is I haven't had a chance to play all that much (maybe 5 or 6 hours yesterday) but what has struck me so far is that most of the aircraft seem to perform almost identically. There are some mild differences that I have noticed ie: the Hurricane is more sluggish on takeoff than the Spitfire or BF109, but overall I think we have lost the marked performance differences between aircraft that made dogfighting such an exciting, varied, thinking-man's game that it was in .61. Even the BF110 seems to turn sharp enough that the Spits and Hurricanes have no significant advantage over it, and in fact are essentially out-classed by their lack of cannons. As a sidenote, I think I saw Lobo post somewhere that he was concerned the BF109 may have been overly "nerfed" I have to say that doesn't seem to be the case-- it is more than agile enough and packs enough firepower to put on even terms with anything the British can throw at it. Now I must point out that I haven't had a chance to play any Pacific maps as of yet, and since the Japanese vs the American Naval planes have always had the most marked differences in performance I will have to give them some serious testing before passing final judgement. However in the British vs German engagements I am afraid we have almost reverted back to Vanilla dogfighting, albeit with much nicer looking planes and effects and simplified deflection shooting. So all this to say, great job on your hard work devs but it seems like yet again the airplane physics issue is a great out of control pendulum that never seems to find the perfect balance! :uhm:
The Bf110 was not a bomber, it was a heavy fighter, of course it was devastated by spits and hurricanes but in FH was always coded as a bomber, that was clearly a mistake
Yes I know it's an aircraft destroyer, however on Battle of Britain it seems that it turns close enough to the Spits & Hurricanes that it really has no disadvantage given the fact that it can outclimb and outgun them. Well I suppose it does make a bigger target, but really don't think it's correct for it to be able to pull lead on the British fighters in a straight up turning battle. EDIT: And just to clarify the intentions of my post here... I really do love the new flight system (particularly the damage model) and would rather play with .65 than .61 planes, however I hope that in future patches the fighters can have their performance characteristics magnified somewhat to make their strengths & weaknesses become important tactically again.
Agree with you, the system needs fine tuning of all the aircrafts, but at least it looks the most agree 0.65 flight code is better and fun again. I recomend you open a thread to discuss more in detail all the planes behaviour model by model to help us with your suggestions
Oh don't worry I will be! I had done up a very detailed analysis of the different planes' performance in .61 for study and application within our clan, and I will be updating all of that in the next month or so. The question is...should I spill the beans to the whole world, or horde the fruits of my labour to keep TDB its strategic advantage? :naughty: Anyways I will definitely get you some detailed feedback over the next couple weeks as the Army Airforce (TDB division that I head up) gets through our practice schedule in the various theatres and can look in great detail at the performance characteristics of the planes.
I think British planes are in quite good balance with German ones. I had no problem shooting down some 30+ German planes with Spitfire today in BTR. Fockes, ME-109s and ME-110s and I'm not even that good pilot.
By the way, I love that map, as a fighter pilot on both allies and axis. The bombers need some fixing, though. One fly by and they are down.
Yes and what I am trying to say is that they are too balanced and at the expense of realism and tactical variety.
I love the planes as they are now, but they need a bit tweaking.
For example the speed they gain with diving should be different depending on the plane (P47 should fall like a stone), the point where planes stall should be generally a bit earlier and most should lose more speed when turning. It should be more difficult to pull out of fast dives, for bombers it should be impossible to regain control. Some planes feel more like a X-Wing right now, but if you tweak them a bit like this it should be perfect :)
Yes I noticed that with the Hurricane you can side-slip with the rudder so much it performs half-way like a chopper.
IMO, the aircraft is pretty good now....however:
The bombers on BtR NEEDS too have better armor/more HP, is not even fun too fly them the way they are now...
