I'm kinda new to the aircombat portion of this game so I have a question. I was engaged in several dogfights and kept getting shot down. My question is, are there certain spots to hit other planes like how tanks have weakspots? IDK how many times I unloaded on the plane in front of me and they just whip around and shoot me down. I know I hit them many times due to the hit indicator. Unless it is lying to me. Pieces fly off the plane but it seems to take 100 shots to shoot them down. It also seems I get shot down in 10 or less. This concerns the normal ammo most planes have but I've had problems with the 20mm also. Is this normal?

There are inconsistencies between certain aircraft using same caliber weapons. I've noticed that one plane using 6 .50 cals (I haven't played for a while, so this is just an example) will do less damage in many cases, than a plane using 2 .50 cal machine guns. I'm not sure why, but its basically not so much a trick of hitting them in the right spot, as it is knowing how much damage your guns are gonna do. You gotta try and hit them, and just unload. Try to get planes with 20, and 30 mil cannons, those'll usually rip apart anything (cept zeros and the like, which seem to survive basically any US 20 mil guns, ridiculous) Of course, the engine is a good spot to hit, chances are, you are better off just unloading on them when they have their top to you, because its more area to hit.

Try to shoot ahead of them, that'll rip their engine apart and send them to a quick and spectacular doom.

One or two 20mm to the engine kills most planes (except maybe the bombers).

Another important thing to remember is that the lead for the mg's and the 20 & 30mm cannons is different. If you are firing both at the same time you may be getting hit detection for the mg's but are actually missing witht the cannons, which would make it seem like it is taking longer than a 20mm would normally.

The thing is that hits don't seem to register on the rear and wing portions of the plane. So dogfights are severly limited ancounters when someone can't get a hit on the engine.

When you say you get a hit indicator, are you saying the crosshairs are showing a hit, or that you see the hit effect and pieces are flying off the plane you are shooting? Cause if it's only the latter case, you probably a have a slightly high ping, and you need to fire further ahead of that plane to get actual hits. It's a problem with the BF engine. It looks like you're doing all this damage, but you're really not doing any at all.

If that's not the case, remember you may be firing alot of bullets and your seeing hit indications, remember not all of your bullets may be hitting (this is especially true of planes with lots of wing MGs), so you may not be doing as much damage as you think you are.

A lot depends on the type of fighter. In El Alamein if you are axis and fly the Italian MC 202 Folgore that plane will have to get a whole lot more hits on the enemy to bring it down. On the same map If you fly the Bf 109 with its larger caliber 20 mm guns then you can kill the enemy fighter with far less shots. Aim for the Engine.

Mostly the crosshair indicator. The pieces flying off reminds me of when you get shot and blood flies out of you but you still maintain full health. I see what your saying about the indicator throwing you off thinking a lot of bullets are hitting.
