Grim_GromIs this mod any good? I'm serious, is it? Can someone outline for me why it's such a good mod etc, It's just I'll have to set aside a night to download all it's crap :p.

-Well its largely a matter of personal prefrence but here some guidlines -if your obseesed/need hyper arcadism or hyper-realism then you might not like it, as its somwhere in between. -Also have to be willing to swallow some rough edges (most of which are inherent to usual BF mods and play, such as the stair bug). Also it is still in beta so not every damage modeling and charcaeristic is perfect- but you would be suprised how often it is and your wrong about your idea about the eqipment. Overall the mod is very 'complete' in the sense that all the icons are done, and there's no un-textured game items for example -Like dealing with more accrurately model eqipment. In FH if weapon has advantage, for the most part its not nerfed or at least attempted to be model closer to rl. As result, it can be both very fun using a eqipments advantages, but annoying suffering the consequneces. In fh, the bullet damage is attempted to be modeld indepently of the weapon. -The snuper rifle bullet does the same damage as the non-sniper rifle bullet. -Multi-shot rifles firing the same round with same power have the same damage as the single shot rifles. -In terms of content, there is a LOT and there is a LOT at very high quality. Were talking a quality beyond anything avaible commericiall or free. You cannot by a game with a KT, matilda, panther, etc. that looks as good. -A big range of battle types. FH covers a lot of different KINDS of combat. If your just like CQB, fh does has something to offer there but it is also much MORE and expands on regular bf things. If your looking to explore, there is large tank focuesed battles, there is pure large naval battles (hood vs bismark), more large airbattles (Bombing the reich (like btr but reversed), and also many new assault map in both the paciifc and europe (tarawa, crete, other d-day maps). -SW weapons type battles. FH even encompasses fantasy ww2 battles with eqipment that never saw combat or only limted amount, albeit mainly german ones. If you liked sw stuff alpen is a big draw. -Coming back to cqb, FH has a lot of new infantry weapons. If you like ww2 infantry weapons there's a lot to try out including various machine guns, smg's, rifles, and AT weapons. -New army's. in addition to just the orginal FH armies FH has some maps that allow you play as poland (2) with many polish items, finland (1), or early war france (1). -If you like eye candy, fh's weapon effects are a big step up from vanilla. with improved explosions and sounds. -Fan maps, if you like trying fan maps there are a lot done, and even more on the way. -System requriments. YOu do need a good system to play FH- lots of ram req and long loading times are somon. IF your systems is only ok, your going to have turn your setting way down to get accpetable perfomace. Its not much a matter of optimiaztion here either, lots of unirque models and textures on large maps each take up chunks of space. -IF you like new statics, FH has many many dozens of new statics not found in any other mod. Including such things as enterable coal minds, new buidlings, and bunkers. -SP, if you dont play online, most if not all of FH maps support sp. There's also mods that support imporved AI. -Clans, organize play tornaments. If this is your cup of tea FH has plenty of clans and organized tournaments. -Historical accuracy- FH itself does not use nazi symbols, but there is a mod that can add these back in if place holders annoy you or whatever. -SERVERs, finally and last but not least you will ahve no problems finding a full server. THat and you stand a good chance of finding one witha good ping. Either on ASE or even using the bf server fileter there are people playing (usally about 400 or so). Well thats the best I can describe why, I highly reccomend the mod.

Grim_GromWell this is the "Is it any good" thread. So it's there for reference, I have researched it, but I seriously cannot dertermine how good it is. I know theres more realism and more accuracy but that dosen't neccesarilt make it great.

Trust me man, its a blast. The most fun you'll have with BF1942, especially if you're into WW2. Lots more teamwork, much more intense battles, TONS of toys and equipment to play with.. its all there. High freaking quality too.

It makes people who are good at DC its bitch. If you're good at FH, you are a force to be recconed with. Its not about reflexes any more (they help tho). Its about intelligence. Think, hide, be sneaky, use your equipment to the best of your ability, and you will own.

probably have to extract the mod on a PC first, and then copy it over to the mac. but i'm not sure what BF-patch is available on mac? (none from EA, but i don't know how well the Mac-distributor has followed up). as long as it is 1.6 or above you'll be able to play single-player. 1.61 to play on the internet.

do i recommend it? how could i not?

The most secure and best course of action would be to smash the MAC with a hammer until nothing discernable remains, then buy a PC like the rest of the world.

If that's not an option, then I'm afraid you may be screwed. I havent heard of any MAC users being able to play online yet. At least not in any BF1942 game I've been in. It may happen somewhere.

Watch all of Band of Brothers. All of it, in one sitting. It's only 700 minutes or so, don't be a wuss.

Now, sit down and play Forgotten Hope. I am not kidding when I say that it is like a playable version of BoB, or any war movie for that matter. Watch the movies - if someone is hit by a rifle shot to the chest, he isn't getting up. Play FH - same thing.

FH isn't merely a mod. It may have started that way, but it isn't now. FH is like a whole new game, and is so much better than vanilla battlefield42 that it makes me cry. Tears of joy. Pure, salty joy.

FactionReconBecause no one like Macs.

Ummmm- NOT. Mac's are more efficient in to many apps to list (including creating the wonders of CGI), and more powerful (pound for pound). The main reasons that it isn't available are: Most hardcore Mac-Users spend their time using the Computer as a TOOL. And because of the "Microsoft Death-Grip" on the Industry in general. If Games where more readily available for Macs; I wouldn't own a PC. Though I think I'm gonna go Linux soon:naughty: . Windows bites knob!

If you can't deal with Windows, Linux is NOT going to be any easier.

Linux is a great system, as long as you don't have to do anything with it. Running an application on Linux is one of the most complicated and convoluted things I've ever done, for such a simple tast. Only hardcore nerds can find the system appealing.

Windows is the gaming platform. If you play games at all, get Windows.
