i'm new to the mod and i was wondering if the wirbelwind is in the game (i know the ostwind is) and if so which maps is it ?
it isnt so far i know.... maby you need to buy secret weapons ;)
As far as i know the Wirbelwind was one of more common panzer IV chassis mobile AA guns. I'm pretty sure there were many different 'flakpanzers' but i think the wirbel was the best as it had a vierling (or something simalar). EDIT: Oh! Welcome to the forums mate!

That would make german mobile AA so much better.. the Ostwind is so sucky, i wish the devs would make the wirbelwind.. shouldnt be too hard :uhm:
Maybe if they just got an ostwind and put a vierling in it...that's about right isn't it?
In October 1943 Mobelwagen appeared with 37mm A/A gun. Sides folded down for better visibility. It appears 240 were made by wars end. There were a few test units built with the quad vierling setup.
According to Achtung Panzers! only 87 Wirbelwinds were made and only 44 Ostwinds were made before end of war.
As a sidenote there were plans to upgrade the Wirbelwinds from 4 x 20mm to 4 x 30mm Mk103 cannons, oh yeeeaaahhh.
The Flak 38 was made redundant in the AA role on the Eastern front with the introduction of the Il-2M3, the 20mm shells couldn't get through the Shturmoviks armour, which is why the Flakvierling 38 was ditched in favour of the 37mm Flak43 on the Mobelwagen. The 3.7cm Flakpanzer IV "Mobelwagen" or the 2cm Flakpanzer 38(t) Ausf.L "Gepard" should be made before the Wirbelwind.

I do i bought the BF1942 WW2 anthology which came with the original + RTR + SW.Forgotten hope was one of the major reasons why i got it btw. I was wondering if it was in FH that's all.....it's an excellent vehicle in secret weapons and in blitzkrieg (rts game) it tore apart infantry quick.
on the side note i always wonder why germans did use the pz4 chasis instead of absolete pz3 one.. pz4 was, well, not the greatest, but still good tank, pz3 in 44 or 45 was.. an APC
Commonality of parts. By standardizing on one chassis it made repair and parts line much easier if you only have to stock parts for one common vehicle.
