i think solo knows how to use arty, but i believe he is asking if the process could be simplfied so it would see more battlefield use. i think the current system needs a better way to confirm targets, like a coordinate system. however the best system, in current use, is a good spotter which can speak directly to the battery commander. teamspeak rules!

if possible the devs shoud add a line extending from the little tank icon in the arty view to increase effectiveness

Oh it was not my suggestion Solo didn't......but i think it really isn't that hard at all. :)

TS certainly is a huge advantage, but you can prevent a lot of unessesary communication jamming the TS channel(s) - afterall you need an open line for emergency messages right - if the artillery gunner can see his actual target, and where his shells impact, so he can adjust without help. And he can now, all he really needs is a good placed cam view. He can even select other targets around the actual centre of the cam if nessesary, and doesn't always need a new target cam.

If he would only get coordinates and has to adjust fire on spotter directions ( real life ) there would be a lot of communication needed and all in all it would be much less effective as now.

Directing artillery over TS is a good way however if there is no spotter and artillery fires blind.

The only artillery system that is real easy to use would be : see artillery impacts on your minimap. Maybe see the artillery shell(s) fly on your minimap aswell, so all friendly players see artillery is firing and in what direction the shells are going.

Players may have seen that before in RTS games, representing off map artillery.

Ofcourse i do not think the FH devs can change the engine itself to give us that, it has to come from DICE. Maybe BF2 will have an "avarage" player friendlier system.....

excellent suggestion, i think this would be a nice compromise to coordinates or spotting. or better yet a supplement to spotting. maybe just the impacts though as the shells would be moving relatively fast and would clutter the minimap with battery fire.

The fundemental problem with current system is there is no reward for the spotter. Until this changes people will not be motivated to use arty consitantly, on for example public servers.

Also in rl arty would have the range to target as well- but of course would no hace a live video feed floating in the air.

True....

I love using arty...and the most pleasurable experience is: Allied soldier: "Why am I getting killed all the time??" Allied soldier 2: "WtF??? Why do I die in my main base???" Allied soldier 3: " ARRRGH what is the Zu Fuss????"

Also, in my opinion baseraping the allies with arty shouldn't coun't as an offensive thing. It takes a lot of effort to get it perfected.

It's not so much that the system is hard to use. Lining up your target according to the crosshairs is easy enough, but the camera tracking system is a bit dodgy. For example, because of the way the spot may be presented and the camera slews around as you fire, it's sometimes hard to figure out WHERE your shells went if, for example, the spot is bad and the target is obscured.

I definitely like the minimap idea in addition to the camera view. I also think it'd be possible, given the engine. You CAN make special minimap icons for artillery units. Think about it. When someone calls a spot, anyone in an artillery unit gets a little yellow triangle on their minimap to indicate the general area where the spot was called, right?

Well, why couldn't the artillery cam also include a minimap that shows impacts?
