Well I started playing FH since a day or two after the first release, when I heard about it in the DC tester channel. Needless to say I found it interesting and soon got hooked. .5 was hugely flawed of course, but it showed the strong desire to head in the right direction. And it seems I've been proven right so far!

Anyway.. here are a few screenshots sitting on my webspace from old FH versions. Thought they might bring back some memories for people. I'd apologise for posting them here and killing 56k'ers but then... who plays FH on a 56k?

atlantic.jpg

A real titanic moment there, with a lovely sunset. Just missing the gorgeous curvy redhead to admire. From an old atlantic map which was kind of fun. Name in chat look familiar? ;)

hailar.jpg

Japan vs Russia! Over neon green grass! Most unbalanced map ever perhaps. T-34's vs ha-gos, guess who wins? Only upside for the Japanese was that they still had the panzerschreck at this point. Which ate T-34's for breakfast!

karelia.jpg

Ok so this is also a crappy picture.. but look, crosshairs in the tanks!

matila_I.jpg

The old Crete. Which was very very fun, even if it was rather unrealistic. I loved being in a matilda on this map, you were immune to anything! Except the stuka.. oh yeah, and the panzerfausts that the Germans had. I remember once killing literally 20 Germans in a single grinding attack against the hill, that took the best part of 5 minutes due to the sheer speed of the Matilda I.

I played FH with a 56k (more like a 38k) modem from .5 to .67 on 40 - 50 player servers (mostly the 21st panzer server). I got dsl near the end of the .67 era and finially got cable 2 months or so before .7 came out. If I can get my old FH computer working I could get my 20,000 screen shots and upload a couple.

I tried to play vanilla on a 56k... needless to say I didn't try for long. Kept disconnecting from servers constantly :(

Old good days... Wasn't there a half-sinked british carrien in that map?:)

I actually enjoyed that map... when I played as russians... sometimes...

[Tiger crosshair screen]

Ok so this is also a crappy picture.. but look, crosshairs in the tanks!

I can remember how confusing it was in the beginning after they had removed the crosshair and added the realistic sights. But I got used to it pretty fast and now I am constantly tabbing "c" when im driving tanks in bf2.

Oh yeah! That map was fun! And the german airfield looked nice too!

It's alot easier to just use the "F9" key to change to and from gun sights.

Thank God for mice with more than three buttons ey. I've got one of my side mouse buttons mapped to gunsight, switching goes faster than lightning.

If memory serves, it was upside down in the water. They had an escort carrier on that map I do believe.
