On the Battlefield portal there is an announcement that the patch will be released sometime this winter (good news). My question for the devs is: Will the patch kill the FH2 toolbox as stated? as a follow on, what else may be affected by the removal of third party add-ons? Please no speculation here from forum trolls, I would appreciate a Fh2 dev only response.

Then you should have PM'ed one.

I don't worry about the toolbox as much as FH2.exe.:( I was in hopes that EA wanted to fix its past sins and make it better for modders. Seems like this is just more a fix to combat the BF2 hacker community.

If you really don't want for people to come here and discuss what they think, it would've been better to PM a dev like Lainer has said...

I think if EA does it right it won't kill FH2 toolbox, from what I read anyway. They say they are "taking preventative measures against 3rd party tools which have been severely affecting everyone’s playing experience recently by crashing dedicated servers, clients as well as allowing account spoofing."

FH2.exe or the FH2 toolbox don't do any of those so hopefully it'll be all good for them. :)

@ Ronin Good job at re-reading the original announcement. I hate to break the news to you but FH2 is a third party in the eyes of EA. Third (3rd) party implies anyone who is involved in the game outside of the producer and the consumer. @ Lainer A personal message is much more intrusive than an open request for an answer from any Dev (at their convenience of course). According to you, should I just PM every Dev then? I didn't think so. Besides, if I did PM the Devs, their answer would remain private and therefore not constructive information for the larger FH2 community. My original question still remains unanswered and I would appreciate an answer from someone with an official capacity within this mod. This is not an unreasonable request in my opinion.

Which third party tools were doing that? By the way that statement is worded, it seems like EA is releasing 1.50 simply as a way to block all mods rather than to actually do anything positive for the game or community.

How could EA block the mod with a 1.5 patch? People would just stay with the 1.41 version.

The fh2 toolbox is a serverbrowser not a third party hack, it will work fine with the upcoming patch. The best would be if DICE fixed all bugs so there wouldnt be the need for fh2.exe!

Well, from what I gleaned from the source code, FH2.exe is little more than a glorified batch file (please don't kill me!) - so, theoretically, there should be no problem replacing it with a similar simpler mechanism, unless EA/DICE would do a ridiculous move and outlaw any form custom shaders as part of their security improvement.

Note that I'm not a dev 'though :).

Well the announcement tells of specific 3rd party programs that do specific things, not just any that is outside of the producer and the consumer as you put it. FH2.exe and the FH2 Toolbox don't do anything that even remotely resembles crashing dedicated servers or spoofing accounts. That's why I thought it would be a good idea re-read the announcement and bring that to your attention. I'm sorry if I sounded offensive ;)
