Hi there. As it has become somewhat quiet on this board I thought of bringing up a very interesting project I have come across.

A couple of BF2 mods (PRM, OPK, USI, EOD and BGF) have formed a sort of roof organization named Black Sand Studios (http://blacksandstudio.com).

This leaves only FH2, POE2 and maybe Desert Conflict as major BF2 mods not participating.

Now what is BlackSandStudios about? Well it allows the mods to share models and features providing swifter forthcoming of the mods. An absolutely great idea as there is no need for every single mod to develop static xyz or the sound for xzy weapon or the code for zgf.

What do you guys think? Don’t you believe FH should participate? Or create another alliance?? Considering FH2 has been in development for nearly 2 years now and we haven’t seen the release of the first version everyone can guess how long it would take to see a "full" FH2 (with all theatres, most used weapons etc..)

Opinions welcome..

FH could definitely use some trades with BF1918-2. A lot of stuff BF1918-2 will be making could be used for FH early war or colonial troop stuff. Like the Lebel rifle for French troops in North Africa. The Ruby pistol in FH 1 was from BF1918. Similar trades can probably be of use. Not necessary of course, but useful nonetheless.

POE2 and us are in cohorts in a similar way. Let's call it White Sand Studios to make it sound impressive and leave it at that :)

thats really great news! nevertheless inviting more mods and making it more "official" might create more synergies, dont you think?

The only problem is that if EA buys Black Sand Studios and orders the production of all mods to halt that means no more FH. It happened to Trauma studios (even though they went on to make BF2 only to get shafted).

I know that stuff like that happens, but EA should know that if they do that, the entire Battlefield community (or atleast a large portion of it) will turn against them and stop buying their games. Besides, EA actually wants people to make mods for Battlefield. That's why they have ModLight on the Battlefield Portal.

Trauma studios did not "make BF2". DICE Sweden made BF2. Trauma studios prototyped gameplay elements for BF2 on the BF1942 engine (many of which never made it in, such as fastroping). There's a cool screenshot floating around of people fastroping on the DC map Basrah's Edge. They also prototyped build-in VOIP and the commander system, IIRC.

I would love it but it's not our decision(it's something that I fantasize about:naughty:). I once tried naiveally to ask Xww2 to share statics, models, and sounds with FH2 but for their own personal reason, and in a way selfish reasons, they wanted their name all over the mod they started and didn't want anyone else's which is fair but certainly not the most efficient.

BSS is more an association of differents mods to share content ,idea, and manpower. It also helps its members to start a mods (for example, if a modeller has no job he can still help someone else if he's interrested).

Personnally i feel disturbed when i see bf2 modding community so small, most of the member are coming from bf42 and bfv. BF² hasn't provided a real new breath to the modding imo. I don't think we will see a great gold age like under bf42 with plenty of strange mods. Mods need more and more member because modding requires more and more work (it's no more the ugly 3 polygons with a 512² texture) and on the contrary there less and less people. :( it's really depressing.
