Which aerial combat map do you prefer and why? The Bombing the Reich map is not as good an aerial combat map as Battle of Britain. In the "Bombing" map Allied bombers often end up getting destroyed too quickly on their own runways. If the Germans loose their spawn points sometimes the Allies must first land on the Axis base and literally hunt down that last Axis player hiding in a remote corner and kill him to win for the Allies. In the mean time you have the entire rest of the Axis team just watching that lone Axis pilot hiding. That can be really boring and players start switching to the Allies if possible just to keep from sitting there with no chance to play. When the Reich really started getting pounded by the vastly superior Allied numbers, Axis fighters were very heavily outnumbered, sometimes 50 or more to one. The "Bombing" map is not very realistic because the Germans, after the Battle of Britain setback, had little chance to retaliate against England. The lightly armed German bombers would be easily destroyed by overwhelming Allied aircraft fire power- like shooting cows in a pasture. In the "Bombing" map they need to get rid of those obsolete Hurricanes and use just the Spitfires and an English version of the Mustangs as the only British fighter escorts. Also the outdated German 109E fighter should be replaced with the 109G. Battle of Britain is a better aerial combat map for gameplay. It at least does have the correct aircraft and is more realistic. Battle of Britain being a day time conflict map has better clarity on many PCs that have a hard time using maps that occur at night.

IIRC, the Hurricane did see duty as a night fighter later in the war, as did the Bf110 and the He219. I'm not sure that Spits and 109s were actually used as night fighters though.

I don't think either, that the British night bombers ever had fighter escort past the Channel, which would have been Hurricanes (maybe not MkI's though) and maybe Mosquitoes (which aren't in yet) As for the 109, I think we are using an E model with G coding. Pretty sure it says 109G on the killspam, and it does have a lot less cannon ammo than the one on say, Fall Weiss. (not sure, is the G supposed to have 30mm in the wings?)

If the bombers are destroyed on their own runway then the Brittish need more AA and flak around the airfields.....ofcourse if no-one mans them, there is no protection of the airfield.

BoB would be better if there were more planes. The great thing about it in vanila was that everyone could get a plane in a few seconds. Playing the FH BoB the other day we had to wait around a while to get a plane. And with the really strong AA in FH, planes typically live all of 5 seconds over the enemy factory.

And to make it even worse.... bombers in FH just fall apart in a second. Taking a he-111 on with a hurricane was not an easy task in real life, yet ingame those rifle cal. MGs tear a he-111 apart in one pass. That is one reason why you rarely see gunner positions manned, they're simply pointless.

yeah, I agree, plane damage needs to be fixed. Also, BTR with Sboats is really fun. But, still, even now I can pump 100 cannon rounds into a fighter and not take him down. Really pisses me off.

Then you obviously arn´t checking with your hit indicator since no aircraft in 0.65 takes alot of beating. I to prefer BoB over BtR, simply because BtR has some serious game-play issues as pointed out above. Also you often find Bombers spawning infront of you plane which is really frustrating. Also the Bombers drop far to quickly and are easy bait for any hostile fighter. Bombers should actually be pretty resistance to anything under 0.5 cal (12.7mm) and only 20mm and larger caliber bullets should be a serious threat.

OK, I do check it, and I was hitting. I was 10 feet behind the guy! I put a 5 second burst on MG and cannon fire into him, with him flying straight and level, he smoked, but didn't go down, after the second 5 second burst (he was a very bad pilot), I was almost out of ammo, and had to break off.

It is very important you make clear bombers need more hitpoints and not the fighters.

Confusion about that was probably what caused FH 0.6 flight physics, damage wise.

The devs made bombers better survivable wich was good, but they made all aircraft better survivable ( i think they did that with nerfing the fighters gun damage, because jeeps too could take rediculous amount of strafing damage ) wich resulted in rediculous survivability of fighter aircraft that need a salvo of a minute to start smoking.

I guess most agree with me we never want to see that again, and fighter to fighter damage is now much better and enjoyable ( and realistic aswell )

I do agree bombers could have more hitpoints ( [COLOR=Red]not[/COLOR] the fighters do less damage !!!) to make bomber gunner a bit more forgiving and usefull to do, but not in a way they own fighters most of the time......that is what friendly fighters are supposed to do.
