... and as far as I can tell from scanning threads here, this is what i need to do: Buy BF1942 Patch to 1.61b Download and install 3 files for FH.07 Thats the basics, Right? Then I need to download additional map packs and I've seen references to custom SP map packs on this forum. Ive also seen references to: Sound and texture add on. A Bot improvement program. Can anybody give me reviews on the add ons or let me know if there are any must have things for a SP player? Thanks in advance. I have BF2 PR experience and though thats fun, the SP in PR was/is lacking.

I have the disks for BF1942-SW, so I'll follow your advice and get the FHSW for that too. What's better about it?

You only need the ones you already mentioned above in your first post. I wouldnt personally bother with FHSW just yet, but get into real FH 0.7 first before going to these "addons". But I'd add the mappack number 6 (yes, only the sixth one is required as it is the newest) and historical sounds & textures by mr.cheese and bratwurst to increase the depth in FH 0.7.

Install BF1942 (No expansion packs required) Patch BF1942 to the newest version Install FH 0.7 files 1 - 3 Install Mappack 6 Install Historical Sounds/Textures minipatch Go and enjoy online/offline play.

EDIT: oh and remember to enable punkbuster.

Welcome aboard.

FHSW is a minimod for FH, you don't need Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons for it. :)

Ok, Excellent. That sounds do-able in an evening. Thanks for the info Flippy and Big A. So this "Intensity" mini mod for bots is not needed?

Intensity is a bot-improvement that (supposedly) increases the intelligence of bots. While there was a small increase in tactics (if you can call BF42 fighting "tactics") you cannot use Cheese&Bratwurst's texture and soundpack with it. I wasn't very impressed by it. I'd rather have a very immersing experience with below-average bots than something that sounds blatantly computer-generated with average bots.

Thanks Wjlaslo (and others) for the detail, and i think I'm with you on the atmospherics. I got everything downloaded and installed last night, then I had to crash before even getting one game in, bummer. Thanks for the help in getting me started.

Got 4 hours in SP last night and really enjoyed it. Feels a little sparce compared to BF2, but thats to be expected. I qickly came to love tank duels. If you can find a good place to sit with late war german tank destroyer you can really put a hurting on shermans. No news there, but it sure is fun. Bocage. Jagpanther. Airplanes were a tough sell, even after i mapped my joystic. I play IL2 and the WWI mod for combat FS 3, called Over Flander Fields, which are both hardcore sims that have a ton of features. So, the short sight distances, the weird throttle and the dificult view system are pretty off putting, but maybe I'll keep at it. All in all, a damn fun game so far and I've only played on 2 maps!
