tigers in general are bigger than lions. tigers are the largest cats in the world. which is why i think they called them the tiger and kt cause they're so big and heavy. i think it would be better to rename it to the konigstiger instead of royal tiger also. and if not konigstiger, at least king tiger or tiger II. imo

Beast of WarWhat i am curious about why they called it "Tiger" in the first place since it is based on the Panther design.......only larger and heavier.

Must be because that cat is a lot lighter and that is not becoming a heavier tank. There already was a project Löwe or Lion so maybe it was the only heavy cat left to name after :)

I believe some speicies of Tigers are even heavier and bigger then Lions. Always funny almost each male at some point in his life wondered if a Lion and a Tiger would fight, wich would come out on top.......my bet was always the Tiger :)

Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that they wanted to build a better Tiger?

Tigers own! :naughty:

I voted Tiger II, but it really doesn't matter to me, what it is called.

Well I think the people have spoken. In this as well as the previous poll. More than 70% would prefer Königstiger or King Tiger, some Tiger II. No one wants Royal Tiger. :) I really don't care whether the name will be either of the three most popular suggestions (though Königstiger would be my number one choice) - just as long as it aint Royal Tiger. And I'm happy to see others seem to agree with me.

I´d prefer the original name in the original language since a jagdpanzer is also called jagdpanzer and not hunting panzer or something like that. It´s called Königstiger...

I have not played FA, but anyway...

Direct translation for königstiger would be bengal tiger or king tiger, but I think that units should not be given translated names. The official german designation for "king tiger" was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung B 'Tiger II' Sonderkraftfahrzeug 182/Vollkettenfahrzueg 4503(H) [or VK4502(P)], so Tiger II was the official call sign for their new toy, königstiger was just a nickname used by troops, much like ofenrohr for RPzB.54 'Panzerschreck'.

So if other vehicles in game are called by their official names, Panzer VI ausf. B should be Tiger II, but if they were called by their inofficial names, it should be köningtiger.

Some 50 köningstigers were fitted with "Porsh turrets" because the "Henschel turret" (actually both tiger II turrets were designed by Krupp) was still on the drawing board. Difference in designartions were that tigers with so-called "Porsh turrets" were known as Vollkettenfahrzueg VK4502(P) and the others as Vollkettenfahrzueg 4503(H).

For those who blame the köningstiger being a slow moving immaneuverable beast: Tiger II was had the highest sustained speed (33km/h) when comparing to other german heavy or medium tanks, it could turn in place (at least nearly), it could climb some 35 degree slopes (39 for t-34, 31 for sherman) and it had a very low ground pressure on soft surfaces (due to very wide tracks). It had its defects, such as poor reliability, short action range due to high fuel consumption, transportation problems (only few bridges could take its weight for example) and lack of skilled crews, but still it was an exellent machine with the best at-gun of the war and nearly impenetrable armor that forced allies to destroy them by artillery or aircrafts (There are no records or photographs to prove that the Tiger II's frontal armor was ever penetrated in combat.)
