Hmm, this is a hard one... World War II online is the future in terms of the sizes of number on the battlefield. I have Bf1942, and played WAW, I also was part of 21CW, vietnamcombat and Total-war. Most of these are great tournaments, where you can meet some interseting people and have great times. I now play WWIIonline, and cannot go back. Trying to get the BF games to work the same as wwiionline is impossible. There are just too many things in WWIIonline. Destructable bridges, destrucatble buildings, Huge co-ordination (I have been in battles with over 150 player - and they are just the ones on my side), trying to keep you supplies at a good level. Too many times I have seen an attack being mounted against an enemy town, and after a few hours combat the enemy counter-attacks and grabs our town due to the fact that all of our equipment has been wiped out and we have nothing left to defend with apart from 150 riflemen. There is no point system in WWIIonline. Instead factories produce equipment wich is moved to the frontlines. This process takes a few hours. Also research and development takes place, meaning increases in certain equipment, and the introduction of new equipment. This can be hampered by enemy bombing of factories, wich slows down the development of new equipment and cut-backs in production. In the last campaign (the Allies had a huge victory) they captured our factories, thereby stopping our production. WWIIonline is a constant battle, campaigns can last 3 months with non-stop fighting. The tournaments I have been involved in last around 12 hours with breaks of days on end. No, the BF games will never be able to manage the system WWIIonline has. Basically, in my opninion, the BF games are arcade shooters, while WWIIonline is a tactical simulator with a steep learning curve. Too many times I have heard people complain about how unreal wwiionline is, and it is usually the people who are arcade players.
SkipsterFunny though, even though WW2OL uses real-world data in an unabstracted fashion, they have the same arguments on the boards about nerfed weapons :D
lol, this is true. I think this will happen in any game, no matter how realistic it is. One of the produces of WWIIonline had a quote something along the lines that if he gave two players knives and one killed the other, the looser would complain that their knife was nerfed.
Thread necromancy is not good!
.vyperThread necromancy is not good!
Neither is :spam: If you post to an old thread, it's necromancy. If you start a new thread on an old topic, you get told to use the search function. You can't win, so why try? So until all you self-appointed forum wardens come to a consensus that's made official by an admin, we'll resurrect old threads, or start new ones on old topics, whenever we want to discuss that particular subject matter. (BTW, if you would use the search function, you would see that thread necromancy has been decried many times, and further comments on it are superfluous) :D
I played WWII online for about a year before getting into FH. Entirely too time consuming, just like any subscription game. Still, had a great time. Yes, there's a certain amount of side-switching, and when one side starts to loose a lot of guys drop out till the map re-sets. Not always though, we Axis guys rallied from near-certain defeat to drive the pesky Allies back to the sea on more than one occasion. Good points include the huge map (Essentially, all of Northern Europe and the British Isles, with North Africa on the horizon), the very realistic gameplay (unsurpassed regarding armor warfare) A very good flight model for the aircraft (not quite up to Sturmovik standards, but still very good) and the ability to do whatever you like. Easy to jump into the thick of combat, or take off as a lone-wolf and try a little sneaky sniping or tank-busting.
I must say, some of the FH maps are very much similar in feel to the WWII online areas, and the gameplay is pretty close. To me, the big downfall of Battlefield is the flight model. That's why I play Sturmovik when I want to fly.
NurenigWell I was thinking about WWII Online the otherday & was thinking it would be great if FH did something like it, Now we all no the limits of the maps so I was thinking well we have torries like BFE WAW & FH, Now in WWII Online theres 2 Sides Axis & Allies :). The FH Devs would be leaders in both Armies like in WWII Online, New Units & Equipment could be requested by Generals from each army & by using the WWII Online "Reaction Chain" it would make sense, that is when the Germans use the Tiger in the Soviet Union it means the Soviets start research of the IS2 & so on. This is probally the future of online gaming & I dont see why FH doest go into this field as a full gamer supported mod. It would be great, with FH Devs support it would really make for a even greater mod. I dont play BFE WAW because ine BFE WAW "Japen Invaded England with Paratroopers". This is the future of online gaming, :). Remember most mods have a online torrie but I know of none that has the Devs at the top, the codes whom can change the net code & so on. Feedback.
