ive been ranting about this since the demo release of BF2 but nobody was listening. i just get "stfu noob bf2 got wicked grafix" whenever i try to discuss the game's problems. but recently the #1 ranked assault kit player in the world posted his observations here: http://www.forumplanet.com/planetbattlefield/topic.asp?fid=7419&tid=1713613 i guess you need a rank for people to take your opinions seriously, ha. for those that dont want to read the entire post, his conclusions can be summed up with these quotes: "i am starting to believe alot of this game is based around luck as opposed to skill." & "The weapon accuracy is so poorly balanced when put into a practical situation. And because of this poor accuracy your seeing bunny hoping, and dolphin diving into the ground, for close combat scenarios, when a player should be able to be using the skills of aiming + reaction to be taking down an opponent, there able to combat this by simply waiting for luck to kick in." again, these are observations from some of the "best" players in the game, guys that have put in major hours playing and have thougth carefully about BF2 overall. his clanmates are also #9 and #16 in the world. not that i put all my trust and respect in the ranking system but i had a chance to play against their clan and witness them devastate their opposition...using only assault kits btw...but hey thats another problem alltogether  in any case, im just wondering how much control modders will have over hit detection. and if FH feels confident they can add realism to this most fundamental of FPS game mechanics. here's to hoping. cheers

its got nothing to do with hit detection. Its how the weapon's cone of fire is coded.

and yeah, we can do whatever we want with it. we could make laser guns if we wanted.

FH2 will feature a basic circle 'crosshair' (its just a circle, so its not really a crosshair) for firing from the hip, and will give a basic idea as to where your gun is pointing. Accurate shooting will be with iron sights. Accuracy is mainly based on the weapon itself, player skill (each weapon will have different ammounts of control/recoil. Players should be able to learn the behaviour of each weapon if they use them enough, and how to produce the best results) the movement of the soldier, and external variables such as enemy fire or explosions (ie, supressive fire). There are way less automatic weapons in FH, so making sure your first rifle shot counts will take some skill. If you got an automatic, then hoseing and charging will probly get you better results (as it should).

Infantry combat in FH2 will hopefully include much more tactics then running in with guns a blazing (as in BF2). Positioning will be very important (moveing at all will bork your aim quite a bit. a static position is best for firing), as well as weapon types, and of coarse, having friendly squad mates nearby.

but yeah, BF2s guns spray all over the freaking place. A well aimed shot is just as accurate as hosing.

You might very well think that

One thing FH should change, BF2 is proner's heaven, I mean be assault hit and hit Z as fast as you can, it does it in 0.1 seconds, and when you prone like that, It would be very bad for rifles+smgs, and I think he means that with "dolphin dives"... Everyone prones in BF2, who would knee or stand? I like DoD proning system ;)

Yes, we will definatly do something about prone. It will hopefully take a few seconds to switch.

i hope you don't make it too slow. you are going to dive quite fast if you're under fire in real life ;) you don't think "oh i might hurt my knee or hand if i dive to the ground for cover" you just dive as fast as you can.

so, don't make diving(going prone) slower, but make it affect weapon accuracy a lot. when you dive, your weapon could be highly inaccurate for 3-5 seconds(the time it would probably take you to set your weapon and aim accurately) and after that accuracy would rapidly increase.

2 seconds sounds fine, you couldn't really prone in 0.1 seconds.

Don't forget we can sprint away from fire now.
