This isn't really a suggestion, since I'm not sure if it's possible in BF2.... I was just wondering what your opinions are. In BF1942 and BFV, when you took small arms fire and died, your body went through one of a set number of death animations, depending on whether you were standing, crouching, or prone. In BF2, when you take small arms fire and die, your body reacts differently every time. Which would you guys rather see in FH2? The custom death animations, or the random ones like in BF2? The good thing about the custom death animations is that they look better, more realistic. (You see them in other games too like in Call of Duty.) However, there's only so many death animations, and by now you've probably seen each animation a dozen times, and I'm sure you've all seen a group of dying infantry in BF1942 die in the exact same way, whether it be clutching heart, taking step forward, and collapsing with other hand outstretched, or, when prone, upon death turning over on your back. Some of my friends have grown absolutely tired of seeing the same animations over and over and over. The good thing about BF2's death animations is no two are the same; your body always does something different. However, sometimes they look rather... silly, if not totally unrealistic. Still, my friends who have grown tired of BF1942's repetitive animations prefer BF2's death animations, because they're always different. So what would you guys rather see in FH2? Custom-made death animations, or just going with BF2's system of totally random death animations? Remember, this is just an opinion poll, I'm not even sure if it's possible to code your own death animations in BF2, much less whether the FH team even would want to do so...... Also, I'm not talking about death animations from explosions. The BF2 getting-blown-up animations are better than BF1942's one getting-blown-up animation.......this is just about death by small arms.
Im not sure, it depends if the devs can alter the rag doll behaviours or not. But even if they cant..
The BF2 behaviours can look quite silly, but the scripted animations are equally silly.. (a guy reaching for his chest even when he was shot in the head)
I'd prefer the BF2 ragdoll.. hopefully tweaked to be less weird.
I voted for Rag Doll. Altough Bf2 devs did it wird looking but it's still more realistic and "normal" than for example guy falling on his knes and then on the ground after takeing direct hit from tank missle.

Tank missle? What map is this on? Anyhow......If they could get the rag doll to act in such a way that it would not look so gay then I would be all for it. However if they can't then I am all for the custom animations. Maybe just add a bunch more that work off from hit locations as well as your current position.
There is no such thing as gay looking ragdoll!
From the tiny bits I have played BF2, I've seen the ragdolls be very, very stiff. I think HL2 engine does the ragdolls better, the best examble for this is DoD Source. I just love the "realistic" ways how the soldiers end up lying on the floors and streets when dead. I like it how you might end up leaning on some pole or sitting next to a wall or something. Then again, dont blame me if you can do this in BF2, hell if I'd know, I dont play that game. :)
ive voiced my opinions on this a few times before. Personally, I think animations looks better, but there's also the repeaditive factor. Rag doll pysics can look amazing, and totally kick the crap out of animations, but only if its done right.
bf2 has not done it right.
they made they same mistake that other games like ut2k4 made, which is when the player dies, the soldier model instantly snaps into its rigging stance (the template pose that animators use to animate. involves the guy standing like a 'T' with his arms at right angles to his body). So when you kill a guy in bf2, they flip up into this retarded 'T' pose, then collapse. which looks just plain stupid, and more often then not, they end up in the same pose when they hit the ground.
Currently, my award for best ragdoll deaths goes to the source engine, because when you kill something in that, it just collapses. depending on what its doing before then, you can get some really really realistic and cool looking death poses (im sure youve all played cs:s and shot a guy, where he falls into a wall, then slowly down to his knees, then onto his face)

He's talking about BF1942. If an infantry gets hit by an anti-tank rocket point blank, he grabs his stomach and falls...... really unrealistic, but then the chances of hitting someone point blank with an anti-tank rocket are pretty low anyways...

That is exactly why I love Source ragdolls. How many times in DOD Source have I shot at the dead soldier sitting behind a counter even he is dead? That would be so cool to have in FH2. Altho I doubt it is impossible to include, instead of hardcoded (?) BF2 crapdolls.
At least with the set death animations, you see it from distance, you think "Ya! got him!"
