The Jackalx2k We can't do much to help this really. We did improve it a bit though. But the shear size of the textures, sounds, and amount of vehicles per map makes it this way. That's why BF loads so fast....because look at how many vehicles are on each map. Don't you think if we knew how to make it load as fast as normal BF we would have?
I got this from another thread, and it just made me curious...
When BF1942 loads a map, does it sift through all the meshes in the standardmesh RFA, and then sift through all the textures in the Texture RFA looking for what it wants?
If it does, how much time does it take?
Would it improve loading times at all to separate countries equipments and textures into more distinct folders within the RFAs and tell BF to only look in those folders. I already know the uniforms and building textures are done in such a way...
For example, Valirisk. Germans vs. Russians. That means you don't need Americans, British, Polish, Finnish, or Japanese. Don't need P40's, Enfields, M35's, Ha-Gos, or Fletcher destroyers. And yet all those things are lumped together in a single folder. Would it not speed things up at all to put Germans in one folder, and Russians in another, and so for Valirisk, you only need to specify in the map file which countries you're using, so BF doesn't need to search through the Brits', Yanks', Poles', and Japs' folders for stuff it isn't looking for anyway?

lower the resolution on the skins and use less polygons = less loading time
lower the resolution on the skins and use less polygons = crappy looking models and skins
i rather have a long wait time so i can enjoy what FH has to offer

get a gig of ram that will fix ya right up
I have a gig of RAM.
This isn't just for who can afford the most RAM, it's about stuff the devs can do to make the loads faster. There are probably some tricks or whatnot that they can try to shave a few seconds off the loading times, and unless you have something to add to that effect, then you can just keep your mouth shut.

There is certainly no reason to become so defensive.
Because "Buy more RAM" is the standard answer to "FH lags/take too long to load".
Not everyone can get more RAM lickety split, and yet some people act as if it's a free download from RAM.com.

More RAM ( up to 1 GB, more then 1 GB isn't faster but actually a fraction slower ) is the best answer to cut long load times as many said before.
But the speed of the RAM is important aswell......400 Mhz DDR memory in modern mainboards is used at 1 Ghz bandwith already and have a dramatic effect on reducing map loading times too.
When you stil have an older system with 100 or 133 Mhz DDR RAM, ( being used at 200 or 266 Mhz bandwith ) map loading will still take considerable longer then with a modern high speed RAM system, even if you have 1 GB total amount of memory.
My system isn't top notch anymore for a year now, but 400 Mhz DDR x 2 = 800 Mhz and 1,5 GB ( wich is actually slower then 1 Gb of memory but i use my computer for other things aswell ) total memory maps load anywhere from 6 to 15 seconds maximum. Hardly something for me to get upset about.
Simplifying FH to meet players with outdated systems is not the way to go. They have an option wich most of us at some time have to use when hardware has just become a bit underpowered but we can't or don't want to spend hundreds of Euro's/Dollars on new components allready again and again: lower graphics and sound settings yourself in your game......not in everybodies game, if they don't have problems with it.
