'[SYN hydraSlav']Why don't you first create a poll seeing how many people played/still playing DoD? And then say "most of us"

I invite you to create that poll by yourself ;) DoD was created before BF1942, I think, and may be some of the young FH players never have play it... It was funny, until tanks & planes appeared with BF, of course... Some years ago, we didn't have tons of WWII FPS as we have today. So, to have an online WWII FPS game as good as DoD was great. But of course, when BF1942 apeared we said wooooooowwwww!!! May be Valve won't do a great effort with DoD:S (we don't know much about it already), but there're other WWII mods for HL2 coming... And may be in future versions of DoD:S (may be not beta versions) models & maps will be improved (as actually Valve is doing with CS:S). As you can see, It's getting a poll about WWII FPS games, not only DoD:S vs. FH. And that's enought interesting for me...

I'm sure I'll enjoy them both but in different ways. The games are similar in that they revolve around WW2 combat, but they are different beasts all together and that is where my comparison ends. Vehicular combat adds much for me that DOD doesn't, but when I'm in the mood for infantry combat DOD:S may possibly have a slight slight edge. We'll see how infantry combat works itself out in BF2 though:) it could be the schizznit! Not that I don't like CS:S but if DOD:S turns out to just be a clone of that..well I already have CS:S.

Dude...you are have so right! I remember when I first tried one of the betas for DoD (v1[or 2]beta)! I was damn impressed! It was my first WW2 mod I've tried! I can recall som great moments on some of the maps, especially a map called dod_hill and that tiny, tiny, D-Day map! Those were the days...roll%20eyes%20%28sarcastic%29.gif

i hate steam, i stopped playing all mods of HL when steam was released.played dod from its earliest beginnings. was having tons of fun playing NS (natural Selection). but when they wanted my email address and personal info, just to play.. and realized steam tracks you, logging when and where you play. i said later.. i probably wont buy HL2 ,for that reason.

Why do people still forget that you can run DoD, HL1, CS and a whole load of mods without Steam?

Just look how many servers there are, there's loads of them!

So, stop using the 'I hate Steam' reason for not playing HL games and boot up the normal server browser. Hell, you can even use ASE or Gamespy. It really isnt hard.

But you cannot Play DoD:S without Steam. DoD:S being the topic of this thread. I loved DoD for HL, I seemed to love it more when it changed and all my friends hated it (omg aiming's hard now). It will depend on how much it costs, how good it is before I consider trying it. Last I heard you cannot buy DoD:S on it's own, but came packaged with the upper value packages only. (And I bought the online lowest copy, cuz I didn't want a fricken T shirt, I wanted the game).
