What precisely is the reason that people are so up in arms screaming "Steam sucks!"? Ive not had a problem with them thusfar....

With all respect to the mods but I generally hate infantry combat. Both DoD and FH. Way to suspect for my tasts.

I love FH and tanking so I am staying right here.

RantamSome years ago, we didn't have tons of WWII FPS as we have today. So, to have an online WWII FPS game as good as DoD was great.

Hey, i am not disputing whether DoD is/was great or not. But you said "most of us" played DoD. And what makes you think that "most of us", i.e. FH players, are WWII fans that played every WWII game there is/was? I just can't stand such assumptions/generalisations

Ive gotta say that neither is better than the other for me. Both offer intense combat, but in DoD it often occurs more due to the smaller maps. This isn't to say Fh doe'snt have amazing momnets. Also, FH offers vehicles, DoD doesn't and probaly won't as this is one thing that seperates the two and make the gameplay different. They both are the most spectacular mods Ive ever played. But this all comes down to what you like more. Broad vehicular combat with large maps and tons of weaponory, or tight intense infantry combat with pretty balanced weapons. When DoD comes out ill play it alot but its never gonna be better or worse the FH for me. For those of you who still have question on DoD 1.Is it just gonna be a port like CS:S was? Yea pretty much, although theyve added a feature that I thought was really cool were sounds across the map are muffled depending how far away they are and are used as ambient sounds. 2.What features does it offer. The game will also offer Havok pyshics letting you throw around pianos with nades. Nades can be cooked and thrown as well as able to be picked up and thrown back. Machineguns are completely inaccurate unless deployed. 3.Are all the maps the same? Yea, altough because of the SDK new maps come out quite a bit so youll probably see alot fo user made maps.

'[SYN hydraSlav']...But you said "most of us" played DoD. And what makes you think that "most of us", i.e. FH players, are WWII fans that played every WWII game there is/was? I just can't stand such assumptions/generalisations

Ok guy, MANY of us. Many, some, a few... It doesn't matter. Don't take each word as total assumption. We're only 'chatting' about FH, DoD and other WWII online games... As MANY/FEW/SOME of you, I began to play DoD when it was a beta. Really funny game, but we (many/some/few) missed vehicles, planes, etc. With v1.0 we got a different DoD. Worse or better than beta releases, there're diferent opinions about it. Valve forced to use Steam if you wanted to update DoD. Some/many/few people continued playing 'old' versions in non-Steam servers, and Some/many/few others play DoD through Valve. I didn't like Valve a lot. Sometimes it didn't work very well, but it's not as bad as many/some/few people say. And of course, to play HL2 Steam is a requirement. But I think this is not so bad. I purchased HL2 silver ed. though Steam, and I didn't have problems. In fact, to have the posibility of buy it through steam is better for European players, due our Euro money is stronger than US$, so HL2 has been cheaper for us ;). Today, DoD:S seems to be a bit crappy, outdated graphics. But I'm sure after some beta versions DoD:S will be 1.0 and it'll have as good models, skins, etc. as HL2, CS:S have. And give some time to the community. I'm sure they will surprise us with a lot of nice WWII stuff. Vehicles? May be... HL2 have vehicles. Let's see if they can build enogh large maps to play with them. Anyway, huge maps, vehicles, planes, etc. still being the best of FH, so DoD:s will not win this kind of battle. But some/many/few players prefer infantry combat to tanking, etc. May be DoD:S can be a valid option for them until BF2's release.

OhioanDOD is a joke. I used to play hardcore in Beta 2-3.5, and then "1.0" came out and it was suddenly not DOD, it was MOHAA. The graphics sucked hard, the gameplay was stale and repetitive, and there were still bunnyhopping fugs everywhere. As far as content goes, FH is the supreme leader. There's no way people would chose DOD over FH, but a lot of people will play both. Oh yeah - YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR DOD NOW. So I doubt its going to go anywhere. It was barely worth my time to download it as a free mod, no way in hell I'm paying money for it.

exactly my opinion. dod was teh win once, but sucked hard after its beta status, unfortunately :(

RantamDoD:S doesn't look perfect today, but may be tomorrow, when DoD:S left Beta phase. HL2 has a great quality in textures & models so DoD:S could have it too. About vehicles, HL2 includes vehicles. And there're many HL2 mods with vehicles, and some are focused in the WWII. Then DoD:S could have it too again. And I know BF1942 infantry combats are really bad implemented, but if you've seen some BF2 videos I'm sure FH+BF2 will be the perfect marriage for a WWII shooter :D Time will tell ;)

The source engine can support vehicles, but only land vehicles. The source engine is way to shit to support air crafts. HL2 does not have a great engine I mean there isn't even recoil. Or should I say to little recoil to be felt. Also Dod only has western Europe there isn't even Eastern europe, pacific or North Africa. Just good graphics does not make a game great.
