True, but good graphics makes it more easy to bare on the eye.

I think a balance of both gameplay and graphics is important, in a way one supports the other.

cammandThe source engine can support vehicles, but only land vehicles. The source engine is way to shit to support air crafts. HL2 does not have a great engine I mean there isn't even recoil. Or should I say to little recoil to be felt. Also Dod only has western Europe there isn't even Eastern europe, pacific or North Africa. Just good graphics does not make a game great.

Yep, DoD was limited. And HL2 has limitations too.. I think recoil can be edited easily, and to add new theatres can be added, of course. Planes will be, mmm, not imposible (nothing is..) but really hard. But I'm trying to give DoD:S/other HL2 WWII mods an opportunity because:

  1. They aren't released yet!!
  2. They'll be released as beta!!

At least, I think I'll wait until it'll be released as v1.0 to decide if they're enought good or not. I know HL2 engine isn't oriented to huge-maps gameplay, but may be it'll be enought funny for infantry combats mods Again, time will tell... winkx.gif

RantamOk guys, as many of you have readed at Steam, Day of Defeat: Source, the WWII Half Life mod updated with the Half life 2, is near, and will be released this spring. http://www.steampowered.com/index.php?area=news&id=398 Most of us have played (or still playing today) with this great WWII mod, may be the first WWII mod for an online FPS ever.

Wrong Wrong Wrong

The First WWII Mod for an FPS was No Life Mercenary's WWII for Rogue Spear (and Urban Ops etc) more than 18 months before DoD was in Beta. The only reason RS didn't take off was because it was a user hosted FPS game so you needed a VG system and cable just to host. 21 player back in '98-99 was great fun especially the coop. If my memory serves me I ended up with 120 maps to play when I put RS/UO/CoE/Blackthorne together with user made maps.

CoD:UO is probably better than DoD at least it has vehicles.

For me there is only one choice next to FH: Red Orchestra! These two mods blow everything else out of the water.

I may not know a lot about programming, but i do know that the source engine cannot support controllable air crafts. It can support controllable land based vehicles, but not air craft. The maps celines cannot be raised. Also controlling is also impossible to make. Unless you count a helo that cannot increase or decrease altitude it can't support controllable air craft. I think HL2 would be the best game ever (the gravity gun is just so fun) if they had controllable vehicles and air craft. I hope that BF2 will copy HL2's gravity gun idea to make the best game ever.

Ok, I wrote: " Most of us have played (or still playing today) with this great WWII mod, may be the first WWII mod for an online FPS ever." I used 'may be' because is really dificult to know all WWII mods. That "may be" means "I'm not sure about this", dude pleased.gif I didn't know anything about that No life mercenary mod. Now I know about it ;) And I'm sure if I hadn't used that 'may be' Hydraslav were kicking my ass now... And yes, I'm agree with you, CoD:UO is by far better than DoD. And DoD:S seems to be an exclusively ground combat game, as cammand said. Excuse me, but sometimes modders can get so amazing results with their effort that I don't like to say 'that's imposible'. I prefer to be a bit sceptical. But if you know so much about HL2 limitations to have planes, then, ok HL2 don't allow planes :D I'm not trying to sell you DoD:S... I'm only wondering about how it could be in the future...

Will you have to pay for DoD:S? Even the beta?
