I think the addition of the JU-52 was great.
On a side note -- I'm not well versed in the particulars of the battle for Crete. What was British air cover like during the airdrop? -- Everytime I ride over in a JU-52 I can't help but sit in the dorsal gunner spot and wish I had something to shoot at. Of course, if it wasn't handled right, I could see mucho airfield raping with lots of blown up JU-52's. Maybe one Brit fighter, but add AA for Germans, and maybe throw in a 109? Just a thought.
My understanding was there was none, as had been thinking the same thing. There were a couple gladiators there right before, but I think these were evacuated to egypt. Iv not found any record yet of air to air combat so far.
There was however a big naval compenet to the battle though, baisically the royal navy vs the luftwaffe. Ships vs planes did not go well at all and the british had to withdraw. However, the germans did try and send a convoy with people during the night with a few thousand troops which was escorted by some small italians ships. This was intercepted by british destroyers however, and all the ships were either sunk or wen back to the mainland.
Another component on the island was a larger number of greek focues. The greeks could be added as a class like on counterattack, with only a couple of there infantry items added.
