Well HL2 is out in 14 days. Lets see what it has to offer before jumping to another dissapointing DICE game like BF:V was.

Yes, BF:V was lame. I wont say it sucked, but it isnt nearly as great a game as bf1942, and it is nearly identical in features availible to modders. Only a few new options were presented. The graphics are WAY behind the times, looking both gay and retarded at the same time. The grass is the single most retarded thing I've ever seen. Grass that's far away dissapears. So snipers sitting in the grass, far away, where one would think would be a GREAT spot for snipers to sit, because its in the grass and far away, are much more visible then snipers in the grass right at your FEET, because the GRASS DISSAPEARS AT RANGE and COMPELTELY counterdicts the reason it was implemented in the first place, which was to add stealth options to battle.

The trees are ugly, the game lags on even incredibly powerful machines like mine* and it was 50.00$. I could have saved a poor hungry child in poverty-stricken Guatemala for pennies a day and fed him for a year with that. Instead, I got bored and uninstalled it because it was nowhere near as fun as bf1942. Half-assed is the best term I've heard for it.

The screens for BF2 look great at this point and a lot of features they are showing look impressive, but I'm sure as hell getting a demo before I spend any more money on their games.

*my system Gigabyte GA7n400-L (Nforce2, 333mhz FSB) 1 gigabyte PC2700 DDR (Dual channel 512x512) Athalon XP 3000+ ATi Radeon X800 Pro 256 @ 499mhz proc/ 499mhz mem (1 gigahertz memory speed) SB Audigy 2 ZS Windows XP Pro tweaked to death 3dmark2005 -- 5305 3dmark2003 -- 11490

I get around 25fps in BF:V. Far Cry at max settings gives me 45. BF1942 with max settings gives me 80 or above. Hell Doom3 dosen't drop below 35 FPS. There's no excuse for that at all. My system rapes the minimum specs and then has their way with the reccomended specs, and it still isn't enough? The patches still haven't done a thing for preformance. As far as I see it, BF:V is a terrible engine/game for modding. We should wait for the new ones.

I have never been a fan of the HL games, im sure it has a lot of potential. For mods like Counterstrike, but i think you very well know HL2 will never do for a full scale wargame like FH, unless we make alot of compremises(sp?)..

Im not a mapper, so i cant for sure say its true. But i was told the grass dissapearing at a distance is a setting in the map itself. Apearantly if the grass was set at unlimited range it caused alot of lag. But you are right, BF1942 is better then bf:v, however, mods like EOD come better to life on the Vietnam engine for obvious reasons.

OMFG!1!! Teh BF:V trees are teh ownage, dude, wtf!?ยก Seriously now, i find the bf:v trees rather nice, they do look better then the bf1942 pacific trees, right?

At this point in time making FH for bf:v is nothing but a waste of time, bf:v is basicly 1942 only more laggy with a couple of not so great new functions. But who suggested that anyways? BF2, thats my bet ;) [/fanboy] :deal:

It's already been confirmed by Armin that they will be moving to BF2. Not sure why you guys are still arguing about it. BF2 will have so many features that allow this mod to flourish, like squad tactics, a better artillery system, longer view distances, etc. I can't wait (but it will be a long one, no doubt) for Forgotten Hope to make its mark on that community.

Yeah that's my point. The game runs slower then other games which are far more advanced and far more modern. DX9 cards are weird like that. They run older games slower but newer games MUCH faster then DX8/7 cards.

I look forward to the RPG and class customising elements a lot. I can just see myself crouching in a wet shell hole in the pouring rain, my captain firing his Sten gun at the MG42 position ahead, then giving me the hand signal I had been waiting for. Sprinting across the open ground, I DEPLOY my Bren gun, and begin to lay down covering fire. My comrades advance, firing their Lee Enfields and Sten guns, some ATTACHING RIFLE GRENADES and shooting them off. I pick up my Bren gun and charge for the house, pulling out my old hunting knife from back home. I sink it into a German's chest, and shoot several more with my prized Luger I had obtained from a dead officer a few days ago.

:D

The 13th Raptor. Half life 2 will probably be the most versitile engine ever, if you check out the mod resistance and liberation (for half life 2) you will begin to see how powerful it can be. Over 100 players can play in one server for instance in the source engine. The physics can be applied to many different things (realistic balistics, tank traps acting like they should) and the AI will be next to none (which is being used to resistance and liberation i beleive, computer controlled tanks and stuff). My point is half life 2 will be able to simulate big battles like the battlefield engine can. Although i must agree the battlefield 2 engine will be the best bet for what FH is trying to achieve.
