Well, since the release is pretty much here, what do you guys think the dev teams next step will be? Does this game have the life to support many releases in other theaters? If EA didn't pump out BF after BF then I wouldn't have a doubt in my mind seeing that bf1942 was big for like 4 years before bf2 came out, but with BF3 coming around the corner how much longer can they mod for it?
Any other location will require massive amounts of models. These African maps are pretty barren, and not bashing the dev team, but it would be hard for them to create such high quality products in a reasonable time. So will FH2 just stay a African mod? Or will it go on with the rest of em?
Personally I'd like to see all of them, just because I like to be an American. Fire the garand...you know that whole thing. Do I feel that this is wishful thinking? Yes. I've said this since day one, but the other WWII mods should merge with FH2, and create a full WWII experience. The other teams should just bite the bullet, and once again no offense against the great work the other teams have been cranking out, but 3 WWII mods for BF2 will never stand...I think it'll be hard for one to get the job done. The other two WWII mods I'm thinking about are focusing on two different theaters. One seems to be tackling the western front, and the other the eastern front, but all claim to want to handle all theaters of war. I'm a realist so please don't take offense to what I'm saying.
So..ahh yeah the question again, will FH2 continue to branch out into the other theaters of the war?
I might be a complete idiot, but as far as I know they do plan on adding all the campaigns.
FH will carry on regardless of new BF releases, unless a new engine so great and wonderful comes along, thats it worth it. (like that will happen) Fh's modelers are hard at work making all kinds of stuff for the future im sure. Who knows what they have already created, and have waiting to be plunked on a map somewhere.. :D
North Africa is just the first theater. All major theaters of the war will be represented. Some other theaters (Burma, China, etc.) may also be implemented.
Also, for the time issue. The main reason FH2 has taken so long to come to fruition is the fact that it is based on the notoriously hard-to-mod BF2 engine. Most of the delays have been because of complications coding (and re-coding) the BF2 engine. The Dev Team came across several hard-coded (cannot be fixed without destroying the entire game) "features" that they had to overcome.
Once the first release is out, it means that all bugs(or at least all that can be fixed) will be hammered out. The Dev Team also needed to pretty much remake all of the gameplay features (damage system, flight mechanics, etc.) so that ate up a lot of time. Future releases (as well fan-made map packs) should be released on a much more consistent schedule. The only thing other theaters need are models, skins, textures and maps (perhaps sounds as well). A lot of people know how to make these things, but may be unwilling to dedicate their time to an unreleased mod. Once the First Release is out, I'm sure plenty of modelers, skinners, and even coders will be willing to jump on the FH2 bandwagon once they see how great it is.
So, most of the delays have been technical issues with the code of BF2. Maps, models, skins and textures are relatively easy and quick to make (at least when compared to fixing faults in the original BF2 code). So once the First Release is out, all of the gameplay mechanics should be done. The next releases should come at an expeditious pace after that first hurdle is cleared.
IMPORTANT: I am in no way affiliated with the FH2 Dev Team, but I have been following these forums and the updates for a very long time. I am mostly just repeating what Devs had said previously.
I am waiting as patiently as I can for the release, but I'm so psyched about it. Please, Devs, give us your baby and let us cradle it gingerly in our arms. We won't hurt it, we promise. We will hold it and protect it while blasting enemy soldiers and demolishing tanks.
I don't know how to end this post so I will leave you with this:

Oh man.
Anyway African theatre will be great, nothing like the borefest it was in FH.
Nothing like charging across an open field with only shell craters as cover, armed with nothing but a rifle, a couple of grenades and a bayonet.

You...
...you're joking.
Right?
I mean, you'd have to be beyond moronic to believe that to be actually TRUE, wouldn't you?
Heh. Americans 'reversing everything' in North Africa... wow. Ask the boys from El Alamein who 'reversed everything'...

 I'm sorry? The US didn't really help in North Africa itself. In Sicily and Italy yes, but they weren't really...well...let's say "victorious" in North Africa...
