@mrchee true the island is turned, but only about 30deg clockwise. i had to, too make it fit into a bf map. the northern tip of the island ingame, is still the northen most point of the island irl. as for the historical battle part. true the last main stand by the japanese was in the middle.. but the clean up phase ended at the northen tip of the island, with mass suicides off the cliffs, by civilians and leftover millitary. so fighting did end at the northen end of the island, but the last big battle ended at the middle, as you said. the last two flags ingame represent the cleanup phase :D you will notice i made cliffs for the axis team to suicide from, if they lose! hehe

you made the map? if you did, please answer me one thing about it that i have been dying to know: how long is the ingame island in real life miles/kilometers? I love how big it is, and i just wanna know if it is really like several miles long or what.
The Guadalcanal map should have been this big.
EDIT: You were right about the amount of rotation, it turns out i misread my atlas...... Great job on the map
its just slightly bigger than the guadalcanal map. they both barely fit into, the max size map bf42 can handle. its roughly 2km in length
It'd be cool if mapmakers could include a compass rose on the minimaps saying which way is north. Then people wouldn't think the Allies invaded the southern tip of France during Normandy invasion. :p

DAMN!
I knew it was more than a mile..... The actual Saipan is 12 miles long, so this is 1/10 scale...... that is just awesome.
will there be 10 mile maps in BF2?

Oh yes this is an AWESOME suggestion. A compass rose at a corner of the map would be very very helpful in a lot of situations (so you'd no longer have "LEFT FLAG", "TOP RIGHT FLAG", whatever.)
I like .7 a lot, the physics are nice and the new weapons handling is great.
But there's one thing I must complain about.
NO 20mm SPLASH DAMAGE
Its the only thing I wanted and the only thing they didn't do. Also, it CTD's joining desert maps in multiplayer for me.
Ohioan...NO 20mm SPLASH DAMAGE...
Are you sure? I thought I detected some. I know there's a considerable increase in splash of tank-guns, to the point that there is at least a little high-explosive effext when firing at infantry.

I even thought there was more splash damage when shooting at tanks! Today on Aberdeen, I distinctly remember being under fire by a PzIII in a Stuart, and several near misses causing me damage...
