hi, sorry to start a new thread on this subject, but the map and the mapper both deserve it in my opinion! i thought maybe the other thread could be used more for any technical issues (i fell in a "hole" in E4 somewhere, similar to the defgun "hole" on iwo jima, for example) etc and this one for straight forward impressions of the game. if the forum moderaters disagree i am sure they will move this anyway, but i hope they agree with me that Otolikos deserves the recognition. well i just played the map (was about 6V6) and i know that whilst any new map seems great initially just because its new this really is great! there are so many hidey holes and windows and ruined doorways to fight in and from both as defender and attacker and so many little corners and rooms to hide in at some of the flags while the german advance "rolls" over you that i think the replay value will be very good. i can imagine some blistering berlin-esque firefights over certain flags that might go on and on for sometime if there are enough people playing. the new houses and stuff from RTR look great and it really feels like a step up in overall quality and freshness in the visuals, everything just looks so good. its great that AT is pick up kits only as several times i had to run like hell from the german armour and see my team mates doing the same because no one was engi or AT! and it makes a nice change to have the grease-gun as a starting weapon. best moment for me had to be running towards the church and hearing the french torch song playing from the radio with the sound of the german tiger and stug main guns going off and hearing a BAR double tap to keep the infantry at bay, capping the church flag, running up the tower and using the fixed MG to shoot the axis flag across from the church, moments later to be shot in the back with a grease-gun toting axis who had seen it all. just brilliant! i wouldn't be suprised if this map gets played and played similar to how charlie was. great job Otolikos, really and truly a great job!
if you ever want this map to go somewhere, start by locking the vehicles.
D-Fensif you ever want this map to go somewhere, start by locking the vehicles.
agree, if a german leaves his tiger alone and the allies take it, then it's almost impossible then for the germans to enter the city or even reach the sawmill.
thats a player problem, not a map problem though. u may as well say lock the 2 russian tanks on berlin! 11pzg server has a good idea, i think i am correct in saying that if u get shot down and u bail (with no parachute?) u get kicked, should be the same with vehicle bailers....i have my suspicions that sometimes a friend or clan member will deliberately bail from a tank with the intention of immediately switching teams. how many times has arnhem been ruined by a bailer? they r up there with teamkillers in my opinion. there is always the chance of being shot while repairing, but thats what F6F5 and team mates are for!
Map looks very very nice.
But I agree with D-Fens It didn't really remind me of SPR at all just a sweet map. Some Suggestions:
- Lock German Tanks
- Add Half Track.
- More 30 cal kits.
- Reduce the out of bounds.
- Add more propaganda poster
If you are gonna say its based or inspired by SPR buy or rent the DVD and look at the set layout and you will see by the bridge its much more open. But on the whole Great map!
Didn't play it yet :( Nobody to play it with

Omg!!! I knew people does that somethimes! That's so bs!!!!!!
Ok, I tested it as well.
Things I noticed.
The map layout doesn't seem right when I compare it to the movie itself. The Germans were able to get around the town and encircle it until the river. Also, the church where the fountain was underneath, appears to be missing. In fact, a lot of scenes seem to be missing. I can't recognize any scenes, except for the bridge, which doesn't seem right either.
Look at the picture. If I compare it with your map, then it seems as if the Germans are coming from the wrong side of the river!
The map looks good, especially with all the RtR stuff (cheater! ), but there are so many bugs and things that need editing.
First of all I noticed every tile has the same material ID.. doesn't reem right to me. The sidewalks have no collision remember! I could hide almost completely in them. It's almost impossible for the German armour to get into town. The first pile of rubble plays the Tiger around as if it is a jojo. It's terrible. There should also be two Tigers btw. They both entered the city at the same time, only one took a de-tour and went around, thus came later into the action.
Lock the vehicles. Theres a line at the bottom of the objectspawn template. It reads; "ObjectTemplate.teamOnVehicle *". "*" means the team it belongs to. For example the Tiger should have "1", which means it belongs to team 1.
You should replace a lot of textures. Replace the sidewalk (and thus the road) texture, with something darker. You can also make realistic seawalls, by replacing the sandbag texture with a brick texture, and make it appear as a wall. The bridge itself offcourse needs to be rid of the vanilla texture as well.
On and around the bridge I noticed a lot of stuff that was never there.. like the burned out truck. And the kubelwagen that plays the Tiger as a jojo as well. Many scenes just need a complete overhaul if ya ask me. The map is just not what I expected it to be. The layout seems completely off compared to the movie. And with that map name, it should be done right.
There are a few things that are nice though.. especially the RtR stuff makes it all look totally new and fresh. The BF:V vegetation works like a charm and shines like the sun. Fact that someone actually started making this map is a good thing too.
I wouldn't rate this map though. It needs a complete overhaul if ya ask me..
|ClanKiller|Rum...but the map and the mapper both deserve it in my opinion!
And the mapping sub-forum doesn't? :(
Anyway, I really like the map, this guy spent a lot of attention to detail and the Road to Rome and BF:v statics give it a unique feeling.
I am curious, I heard that the movie made the 2 scenes in the same set (ramelle and neuville). So is this why the map got its name
i think thats the point ,yes.
