I am offten frustrated by the fact that people do not defend flags or run a round in jeeps capturing flags and then drive to the next flag, how about creating a set of flags that default back to neutral if no one is with in a certain distance of them, this would force players to defend them if they wanted to win the game , it would not need to be all the flags just a couple per map that appeared key

Defending a stationary point such as a flag is not always good.....

When you are defending a flag, your position is more or less stationary around that flag area.......and there are 2 weapons in FH that is just tailor made to fight stationay targets or targets that remain in a small specific area : artillery and tactical bombers......

When these weapons are deployed you better have bunkers or trenches near that flag, or you will be slaughtered by their spalsh (blast) damage.

Skilled players first call artillery or bombers to ravage a defended flag area, and the enemy players that have not been killed are already wounded wich makes them easier to kill in infantry combat. Only after a few salvo's of artillery fire on the target, or a full load of tactical bomber payload infantry attacks in CQC.

Experience learns however >80 % are braineless bunnyhoppers who prefer to attack defended flags without support whatsoever........these are the ones that make your side loose because of the tickets they throw away dying numerous times per minute.......they drain tickets much faster then even the automatic ticket drain if all flags are taken....

So maybe defending flags pays off afterall.......not too many players can even operate artillery......and the way tactical bombers fly, they spend more time out of the map then in the map.....Yes, if you notice you are in an average hopper server, defending flags pays off indeed.

There is a setting in the battlecraft that turns the flag grey when no forces are present in there. This is a great setting. I was planning to bring this up myself, but never had the time ;).

And BoW, you are the one that always fights for realism, and it's very realistic for troops to remain within the control point, rather then charging off. And as far as bombs and artillery goes, well, they don't destroy buildings, so there is still plenty of space to hide. And that's the whole point of bombers and artilleries - hitting stationery targets with known coordinates

Interesting idea - might make people hang around defending - but I wonder...? Everyone wants to attack generally :uhm: and I can understand that. Maybe a poll would be useful and serve as a guide for any mappers? That way we'd get the forum consensus anyway..

Yeh can someone make a poll? Or can this thread be editted for a poll? Maybe a MOD could do something.

I play on the Wolf server exclusively (so far anyway), and well, usually there's not much teamwork to be seen. Sometimes there is a small group of people (2-4) that works together, but that's about it. Usually it's only 2 guys trying to do something together, like yesterday Dancing Jesus and I in Prokhrovka. Sometimes my brother accompanied us. You should've seen Jesus give 'em hell in his BT-7 :D

Few problems I can see...

First, being the one who has to take one for the team and sit back for anything up to an hour seeing little to no action - and probably getting killed first time you see it. It's not that fun, and I can think of better things to do with my time.

Second, in order to make an effective defence possible, the flag radius would have to be increased. If you have to sit in a small bunker the entire time to keep the flag not only would you be unable to properly defend the flag but you would actually go mad with boredom. But if the flag radius is increased beyond the optimum gameplay limit, it might radically alter how a game plays. It may seem a minor point, but imagine having a first-flag-on-Gold-Beach set up at every flag.

Third, you could no longer know if a flag is under threat or simply greying out naturally. I suppose this would be clearer with experience, and better team communications, but it might be unpleasant for the one guy who turns back in a jeep and meets a Tiger, or equally for the four tanks who turn round for nothing and end up sitting ducks. I know I'm being quite pessimistic, but I'm just running through potential problems.

Fourth, I can see maps like Orel or Prokhovorka (sp?) being even more manic than they already are, with the usual flag race becoming even more rapid and ever-changing. Although, to be fair, these are exactly the kinds of maps where you really want to force defensive as well as offensive play, so that might not be a bad thing.

Fifth, of course, is more minor, but - score whoring. You could continually drive out of the radius, wait for it to grey, and then get cap points for cheap. It's not that big a deal - I mean, good for them  - but its also something to be aware of.

Personally, I like the idea, and think it has potential, but those problems have to be resolved first. Chiefly, you have to somehow make it attractive to defend, and not just for the bunny-hoppers, but everyone else who at the end of the day doesn't turn on their computer in the morning just to scan the horizon for an hour and then disconnect with the feeling of a job well done.

I don't have a solution, I'd be interested to see what other people come up with. Something static, that can be fun and/or useful to use, especially on larger maps like Alpenfestung, where the those at the back positions usually never even see the enemy for the first half hour, if at all. Ideas?

A poll about what? Weither you think this is a good idea or not? Well first off, people in here might have good intentions now staying at flags, but after a while it will get very boring. Plus the people on this forum do not represent the avarage of the people playing FH. So if there were to be a poll, it would most likely bu unrepresentative.
