I just bought a joystick to fly in fh, and I realize I'm a very crappy pilot. Most of the time I spin out of control and crash. Does anyone have any pointers on mastering flying.

I can't really say much about it, as I'm not a great flyer either. But probably the best thing is not to overdo your hand motions, like if you tilt to far then overdo the counteracting motion then you may tip over the other way. Practice in single player.

Have you calibrated your joystick? If you haven't, and have Windows, go to: Control Panel--Game Controllers--Properties--Settings--Calibrate.

As you might notice, the responsetimes from the controls are horrible. Sometimes I wonder if the ailerons & elevators are controlled by hand cranks...

Basically, don't make any crazy manouvers, and you'll slowly learn how much you can bend the planes until they go out of control. If you know you need to turn left, don't make a right turn right before it & vice versa. Same thing for up/down manouvers.

Well, it's just a matter of getting used to your joystick and your plane. When you will know the planes' capabilities, you will be able to control them well. At first, don't try to do any crazy stunts. And later on, only do those crazy stunts if you are 99% sure of not crashing. Don't hesitate in movements, because most of the time, hesitating makes you go straight on into that rock you're supposed to dodge.

The aircraft in all the BF series handle nothing like "real" aircraft, and are a turn-off to old flight-sim guys like myself.

They are absurdly easy, for the most part, virtually leaping into the air on takeoff and almost auto-landing if you're anywhere near the ground. They appear to have virtually no mass or momentum, so they fly very oddly indeed. Very sensitive to slight movements of the stick or throttle.

It might help to reduce the sensitivity of the stick controls so things are not so "sudden".

I was playing fh online today in a fast armoured car going in diagonal lines, but some kid managed to gun me down no problem..I wish I could actually hit standing still targets let alone moving ones.
