I miss playing this map and none of the major FH Servers have it in rotation! Please someone put it back in to add some more variety! I can only take so much Charlie Sector! Finns are in man!

Are you sure? Karelia is pretty bad; even in CO-OP the bots base rape.

Charlie Sector is about 1,000 times better than Karelia. Although I must admit that I really enjoy playing as all sorts of different armies, I hate this map due to non-stop rapage.

Yeah, it's a gorgeous map and I love the way the fortifications are set up, but it just doesn't play out that well. It's too narrow and ends up ending VERY quickly once the middle flag is taken by the finns or the Finnish capturable flag is taken by the Russians. Once that happens, ain't no way you're coming back for the win.

We are planing changes to this map to balance it and avoid the raping fest (not for 0.66, but hopefully in next version)

Cool. It really is a nice looking map, and the trench warfare with a no-man's-land in between would be a LOT of fun, but it's so easy to lock the enemy team into their respective side and just bleed them to death.

The map really looks nice and stuff, but indeed, it doesn't play well. And hey, this coming from a Finn who'd really like Finns in the mod properly! :naughty:

I think one of the main problems with that map are the linearity and the size. It's small, and both of the cappable flags are within close proximity. Myself, I'd make such a map a lot wider, with more cappable flags. I think 4 would be nice. The Finns, and also the Soviets had trench bases quite close to each other, and each one could support the other with reinforcements and counter-attacks if need be. Finns also usually had a fall-back position. So what we'd need are 4 cappables, which all start out in Finnish control. For one this way the Soviet artillery would have harder time baseraping, and the Finns wouldn't be out of the action so soon. I know from experience that the Soviets can easily come and break out of their main base and get flags, but once Finns lose the flags... they're so screwed.

To do the Finnish front justice, the current Karelia map will simply not cut it. Also if the map would be made larger as explained above, perhaps armor could be reintroduced - for example a T-34/85 for Soviets, StuG for Finns, like it used to be if I recall correctly. I think the main issue with the tanks being there in earlier versions was the small size. And of course 0.61 style with IS-2 vs nothing was a bit silly.

Out of curiosity by the way, does anyone know which battle the FH Karelia supposedly represents? Bring to my mind Äyräpää, but don't really know. In general I think many bigger Finnish battles would make for decent FH maps if implemented properly, but I guess the devs are way too busy with the French and Italians :(
