Hello All,

I'm new to the forum, so please forgive my "newbieness".

That being said, I was interested in the development of naval engagements in this game.

I searched the forum, and found a couple of threads regarding how BF2 doesn't quite like having ships. An obstacle that some seem to be trying to overcome. I also found a thread that discussed battleships.

While there were some interesting submissions, I thought it prudent to note that the Standard-type battleships that were employed between the Teens and the Forties still had a major impact on the progress of the war.

Although the Pacific Fleet was nearly decimated at Pearl Harbor, many of the older dreadnought-style battleships survived to fight another day. In fact, at the Battle(s) of Leyte Gulf, Pennsylvania with California, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Maryland all had a chance to give the Jappos a bloody nose for Pearl. And bloody some noses, they did.

I find it amazing how fast the USN was able to refit the damaged ships, for use in early-war Pacific campaigns. A testament to their robust build, I should think.

In any event, I'm not sure how naval mechanics work in BF2, and I'm not sure what you might be implementing, and I'm really not sure how many threads were posted along this topic, because it's almost 4:00 AM and I have insomnia...

... but I just wanted to give my first two cents.

Yours Aye, The Fat Black Cat

Hey, welcome among us Actually, the naval warfare is not a priority objective for the first release Besides, the first theatre to be released will be the North African front, so don't expect to see huge battleships fights in the Pacific fo soon

Thank You.

Well, at least I know it'll be an objective in some later release.

But I'm ready for some North Africa. My BF 1942 glitched upon occasion in some of my Forgotten Hope v0.7 maps. It would just crash. It was rare, but I never did get to enjoy rolling around in a Valentine tank for very long.

:(

But using the German U-Boat was kinda cool.

While Silent Hunter 3 is cool, I'm more interested in surface ship warfare.

Currently, nobody offers that experience in a game, except some cheesy MMORPG called NavyField that I once beta tested.

I just thought the U-Boat was an interesting facet of the game that I had never tried.

The only ships we really need in FH2 are a static carrier to launch planes from, destroyers for shore bombardment, and transports to launch landing craft from. Plus small boats like PT boats, rubber boats and so on.

Battleships and cruisers aren't really necessary IMO.

I wouldnt mind seeing larger types of landing craft. For example LST's, Tank Landing Ship SS-Tei, Marinefährprahm, and such. For that matter you could always add smaller types of ships such as Flower Corvettes and Armed Trawlers. Fleet tenders would be nice aswell for repairing, resupplying, and such kind of purposes.

Battleships and cruisers aren't really necessary IMO.

Neccasery isnt the word i would like to use. Its just that compared with other ships they arent really all that important.

LST's and other vehicle-launching landing craft are a problem because of the BF2 code that prevents one vehicle from being on top of another without damage. I think only static LST's will be possible (part of the beach scenery).

What I meant by necessary was that the gameplay quality of FH2 wouldn't suffer if battleships and cruisers are not present. Destroyers are enough to make an amphibious assault map play well.
