I use my pistol close up instead of my rifle, but not even that works :s Hit the guy once with my rifle, swap to the pistol (german one) hit him again (second time hit ditection comes up) and he's right ontop of me and plugs me full of tommygun lead. sweeeeeeeeeeet.:0wned: I nearly snapped my keyboard in half as he then wasted a buddy of mine .5 seconds later.:mad: Talentless pricks with their smg's! argh! *gets dragged off kicking and screaming* noooooo....

Yeah, it's a pain how SMGs are abused these days, and I think the devs probably recognize that, while the SMG may be the weapon of choice for a no-talent hack in this game, other loyal fans are getting tired of being "pwn3d" by d00dz with [insert SMG here -- well, except the MP18].

There are, as far as I can tell, two major complaints that players have with infantry combat right now:

1.) SMGs are too damn powerful and/or plentiful and aren't differentiated enough from rifles. Why pick a rifle when you can pick an SMG that comes with expacks or grenades and grab yourself a jeep? The rifle's range advantage is pretty much nil unless you're on a wide open map (in which case, you'd better stay down with a rifle or be killed by a tank).

2.) AT weapons make tanks cry. And there's a LOT of AT weapons for infantry. And not enough actual anti-tank cannons on maps (which really should be doing the bulk of the killing).

The ability to be a jack of all trades is problematic and leads to a lack of differentiation in class selection. When one or two classes are picked far and away above all other classes on a map, you've got yourself a problem in either map or game design or both. I think it's plainly obvious that people will take, for example, the tankhunter class over the true AT class any time because it comes with an SMG and the ability to kill tanks. Likewise, they'll pick the panzerfaust because it comes with a rifle. Even if the SMG was only for officers, they'd still pick that because it's better on most maps than a rifle, provided you can close to a reasonable range fast enough. Even if you can't, though, you can still kill with an SMG at medium range because the bullets don't lose power over distance apparently (or not enough power) and the gun is still accurate enough.

So, faced with these choices, the only logical choice is to pick the weapon loadout that makes you most versatile. If the devs watch players' habits in terms of their weapon choices, they'll figure this out right quick, I'm sure. Whether they'll do something about it or not remains to be seen, but I have hope. (and no, I'm NOT going to do the obvious thing and point to the mod's name after that line :P)
