This is a thread to discuss the problems concerning the engineer right now, and why I feel they need some loving. I realise the Forgotten Hope team wanted to avoid the FH1 situation of everyone being an engineer instead of a rifleman but still...

Problem 1: "That area is mined chaps... no wait... STOP! THAT AREA IS MINED!...." :(

These things are just suicide to use right now. Team mates run over them no matter what you say. They're just a ticket to being autokicked from a server, or at best a bad score. And to make matters worse, unlike FH1 it's time consuming to place them. Aside from placing them directly in front/behind of a stationary enemy tank, I make a point of never using them.

Problem 2: "I say, do you really expect me to carry all that useless kit?!"

Flags for mines, and a mine detector. Great in theory... the reality is rather different. They need some tweaking to make any real impact on gameplay. But I guess it's better to have almost useless items than no items at all.

Problem 3: "Blast! Those bloody jerries! I've been fixing that mortar the entire map!"

It takes soooooo long to repair anything. And everything is also destroyed so easily. When you spend literally 2 minutes repairing a mortar, only to have it destroyed seconds later by one of a seemingly endless wave of artillery strikes, it's depressing at best. Really makes maintaining anything an exercise in futility. I also noted that repair points don't appear to exist. Wheter this is by design or not I don't know, but it's just another nail in the coffin that is the Engineer class.

Am I insane? Do I miss the big picture? Do I bring up valid points? Discuss.

Problem 1: I think the mines are fine currently. If you place flags in good view points and your team mates still run over them, then they desserve to die.

Problem 2: There all fine, all have a purpose in the game.

Problem 3: Somewhat agree, one thing ( I think is an exploit ) is the Boys Antitank gun taking out 88's and other ground defences in just two shots which seems a bit ridiculous. Other than that I beleive its fair.\

repairing is supposed to take a while but devs are still tweaking with the times for each gun

repairing will give you points some day right now it just isnt ingame but wit will someday

placing mines is vital on some maps, and so is placing mine flags mining roads on tobruk or the road up to kidney ridge on el alamein or whatever is sometimes the only way to stop tanks(matilda on bardia)

is it a royal pain in the ass when you repaired a 2pdr for 1 minute and the it get blown up again and it starts over again ? yes it is but thats live. what you want a super wrench that repairs everything in 5 seconds ? doesnt sound very realistic to me !

but remember if you got lots of engineers you can repair things faster and mine a lot of roads(best defences on mersa matru, just mine every road without tanks support the germans are pretty fucked)

we just can hope people drive more carefully and pay attention to the mineflags when you place them (try to place them towards the directions friendlys would come from! not directly on top of your mines)

placing mines is supposed to take a while, devs dont want people to spam out mines like candy on halloween, and youa re supposed to lay down to place them and not throw them around like Frisbees

hope that helps / explains

I agree that some things take too long to repair. Especially the planes take quite a while to land, repair, reload and turn around to take off again, so i see lots of people rather bail out and let a new plane spawn cause thats twice as fast, but thats another story.

I like the mine detector and use it frequently on bottlenecks or in front of bridges. Repair points are in game, you get lots of points for repairing even your own tank.

'[FtN|GT Die Happy;4113297']but remember if you got lots of engineers you can repair things faster

Even 5 engineers can't remotely keep a base repaired at the same rate arty will destroy everything. It takes literally 2+ minutes to repair some items, and an arty strike aimed at the flag will destroy it, and all other items, around the flag in mere seconds. It's not remotely balanced. You just end up with lots of destroyed items no-one wants to repair. And even the items you do repair, you never bother to repair to full health because it's not worth it. Active is active, full health is irrelevant since a single hit will destroy the structure anyway regardless of health.

And repair points are ingame? I'd like to believe that, but I've spent many minutes repairing flaks/tanks manned by friendlies, and never once got a single point in return. I've seen the "most repair points" in the score at the end of the map a couple of times, typically with 1-2 repair points. And I pity whoever spent the entire map repairing things to get those 1-2 points.

Maybe there should be a voice alert when your near friendly mines...Have it say "Friendly mines ahead!" and "Friendly mines to your left!" etc.. I don't think I've ever ran over a friendly mine...I'm always aware because you never know whats going to come out of nowhere and kill you...A plane, tank, infantry, mines etc.. The wrench never bothered me either...Especially if you have another engineer helping you.

i found the 2 pdr takes longer than the 88 to be repaired, strange.

i always always always start as an engie on maps with vehicles/tanks. Laying mines to routes to important flags nets you easily 5-10 kills, and bogs down the first rush, which basically wins you the game.

After the first wave however, I see your point of them not finding much use. The recon kit rocks however.

Well buddy, to be fair, if you want to talk about realism with engineer, find me an engineer who can repair a 88 that was hit by a 75mm shell with only a monkey wrench.

Yeah.. i hate when i play on Tobruk, as british, as engineer.. i see a 2 Pounder destroyed.. im alone.. no germans in sight.. perfect moment.. but i feel something.. i feel a AT rifle .. aiming on my hat / head.. or wrost, on the 2 Punder.. but that silent assesin (exept for the gun.. big) is looking for the 2 punder and for his user.. me

I finish my repairs (i always repairs it.. not full.. just something for shoot) when i finish.. i feel again the AT soldier.. i fire 2 shots.. one hit a PzIII and the 2 miss it.. and then "You are dead" Spawn in 20 Seconds

dammit.. i hate it =@
