Teufel EldritchSo what you have here is the classic question...
Is it better to have 1 innocent person convicted if it means 9 guilty are convicted as well
is it better to have 9 guilty ppl be free if that means that no innocents are convicted?
a more apt analogy would be "is it better to imprison 10 innocent people and hope to catch 1 guilty man in the process?" you know who else thought that way during purges? thats right STALIN.
stm_Masi PunkBuster now computes Hardware GUIDs for various pieces of hardware on players' systems while playing on PunkBuster servers.
How they are going to handle this is a mystery to me, imagine that they ban your Videocard,Mobo and HD - then you start selling off the various second hand parts - to different innocent ppl - now there are 3 pc that are banned - one with the Vid card, one with the Mobo and one with the HD - they will obviously start bugging PB, what will PB say to them "Sorry sir your vid card was previously involved in cheating". Its like bying a used car only to find out that the previous owner had been speeding in it - and now you are banned from driving it on the Motorways. Did I misundestand something? Thats going to be a lot of fun:naughty: .
When players raise a violation that corresponds to hacking or interfering with PunkBuster's normal operation, we now (in addition to Global PB GUID bans) are Globally banning the new Hardware GUIDs across all games supported by PunkBuster (including games supported in the future). So punks who are determined to cheat so badly on PB-enabled servers that they try to hack PunkBuster may now need a new computer in addition to a new cdkey in order to return to PunkBuster servers.
But I guess that this only applies to the really determined cheaters. Anyway I support any attempt at banning cheaters.
class action lawsuit. sounds like a super brainy programmer nerd thought it would be "great" idea without thinking about the legal issues
Yea where is the due process that all people are entitled to? It seems PB is just judge, jury, and executioner all at once here. You couldnt put someone in jail the rest of their lives just because they were suspected of doing something wrong.
I'm sure it will be a combination of things. When you install and register some Native Instruments software, it registers based on your unique setup. Change anything of that and it will think its on a different machine and will require registration again before it will run fully.
Changing operating system can trigger it too, so expect cheaters to be changing from XP to 2K to 98 etc in a bid to avoid being banned..
judge reinholdthats right STALIN.

And McArthy? How many innocent lives did the Black List destroy simply because they were accused of being communist or having communist friends? It's like the Salem witch trials.
Well now PB is allowed through your firewall to romp amongst your applications and cookies, sure it will check keystrokes. Virus anyone? There are only a few countries where you are "guilty before being proven innocent" France is one that comes to mind.
I wonder if Ad Aware will remove PB.
BTW the System GUID Ban is across all PB supported games.
