I noticed in the sound setup a button for hardware acceleration. Do most of you have this box checked off?
Nice, after the game been out for 3 years he finally found the second page of the settings ;)
If you have a good non-onboard sound card, you should have that on. This will take the load off the system CPU and put it on the soundcard processor.
But if your soundcard is some crap onboard one, then this might cause problems. Switch if off and select a few number of channels instead
Woow i never knew that ill look 2 nite
I have a Creative Soun Blaster Live, so will ticking this make a difference for me

Should do(!) although it will still use a little cpu processing for 'stuff'. It can be unstable with some cards but I guess mainstream stuff like Creative it'll be fine. I've been looking this week at soundcard cpu usage - some, even with HW enabled, still use up to 10%+ cpu usage... from what I can figure the Audigy ZS(?) uses about 2 or 3 % usually and the old card I have (Hercules Gametheater 7.1) uses apparently less than 1% (!) - so I guess I'm gonna have trouble deciding what to get (mic input on mine is knackered - think I'll put a scope on it at the weekend as it's probably worth fixing if possible). There doesn't seem to be a huge amount of info on soundcard cpu usage on the web - unless someone can point me at some figures/tables...????
It's an independent soundcard, so yeah, that should help. It'll take the load off the processor. I've got onboard sound with my Nforce1 chipset motherboard, so I now do NOT check the accelleration box, and have lowered sounds to 16 channels. This has dramatically improved the playability of the mod, although it has considerably lowered the sound quality. I also play at 22Khz sound and I think medium detail. (I'd have to check that, though.)
Sound is one of the biggest reasons for framerate drop, hard drive accessing, etc. in BF1942, just because of the way the engine handles sound. It's always been a problem in the engine and FH's sounds haven't helped any (not that they've hurt all that much either, though).
Thanks for that Solo.
solo,
thanks for taking the time to explain in fine detail the sound situation. Often times, people provide an arrogant reply and individuals should be priveleged to provide assistnace instead of being a bunch of know it alls with attitudes,
thanks again

Is it just me? Or are you implying that my reply was "arrogant"? I said exactly what Solo said, but in fewer words.
I can tell by experience that an audigy 2 zs will fully utilize all sound (all channels, 44khz, fulldetails ) with almost no cpu-usage. (Tested myself , i had a sb live before and it wasnt the same.
