Totally agree with you: to use Joystick to flight is better. I've played a lot with mouse & keyb (Vanilla, DC and FH) but if you configure your joystick correctly you never will come back to use your mouse to flight. At DC I used to flight the helis with the joy, and it was nice too. I've a Logitech Force 3D (Force feedback) joystick, which dead zone's has some problems to be configured. But after use a tweak application to configure it the joy now works fine in FH. (I read about this apply at WaW forums and it's good) Yesterday, using the joy I was a very hard opponent to axis pilots at El Alamein (WaW public server ~180 lag because I'm from Europe) :) I knocked down two bf109, but the axis pilot jumped out before ;) So, if you have a force feedback joystick take two minutes and configure it correctly. I suppose non-force feedback joystick has few problems to be configured ok.

Got a USB Logitech 3D Pro. There is no comparision as to how good they are. I had an older jstick connected thru a gaming port and it was ok but this stick rocks. All, of course, IMHO.

can someone please explain how to use both a joystick for flying and a mouse for everythign else? is it as simple as just hooking them both up and switching from mouse to joystick when you enter a plane?

You set it up in the options under controls. Select for instance Rudder Left and then you press what button you want to assign the Rudder Left to. And yes you just move the mouse out the way and use the stick to fly, but I have a button on my stick just below my fire button for bailing out and another button near it to pull chute :P

cool, thanks! any recommendations for a cheap, decent joystick? I don't care about force feedback.

Depends where you are from....

If you are on a really tight budget I'd go for:

£12.99

If you have a bigger budget go for:

£29.99

I'm in the US... Tommy, did you smash it through just playing with it, or did you actually get mad and smash it on purpose?

Smashing your joystick that's hilarious lol!

What I do is have my keyboard on the left set at an angle on the desk, the joystick in the middle centered with the monitor, and then the mouse to the right of the joystick. I can flip from mouse to joystick and back in no time. It also helps to map your eject, parachute and view commands onto the joystick as well so you don't have to move your hand over to the keybooard as long as you stay airborne.
