When Forgotten Hope 2.1 crashes to desktop (CTD) you will get the following message: reportcrash1kv5.jpg

This new feature of 2.1 is the Crash Reporter. It collects all relevant information on your computer about the crash and the state your computer was in when it happened. We have this feature, because Forgotten Hope seems to have a bug that causes a CTD, but we have no idea what could be causing it.

If you get this message, please click yes. Any information about the crash can help us to decipher what causes it and as you will see, you can choose yourself how much information you are willing to send. The information we recieve will exclusively be used to determin the source of your CTD.

When you do click 'yes' (my picture said 'ja' because I use a Dutch windows XP) you will get this window: reportcrash2xk3.jpg

Let's go over each section individually: Information Well, this is pretty self-explanatory. It says what the crash reporter does. Map Name and Size This section lists all the maps in your Forgotten Hope 2 levels folder (even custom maps). All you have to do is select the map you were on when you crashed. If you crash during a map switch before you see the loading screen of the new map, please select the map you were on before it switched. If the loading screen is up, select the map it's switching to. Comments Here you put down what happened before you crashed. Especially on crashes in the middle of a map that do not generate a crash dump, this information is invaluable. Please be detailed in your descriptions. You don't have to write an essay, but it is important for us to get a complete picture of what was going on. For example, in FH1 we had a terrible bug that caused people to crash when someone near them fired the Japanese mortar. It took a long time to figure out this cause, but with a tool like the Crash Reporter and detailed descriptions from people who crashed it would have been found a lot sooner. System Information When you first see this window, it will say "Generating, please wait...". This means the Crash Reporter is gathering information about your computer. This may take several minutes, so please be patient! When it's done it will say "Generated" and the "Inspect/Edit" button will go from grey to black. If you clikc on this button you will see a large text file containing all the information that will be sent to the FH team. This information contains stuff about your hardware, but also things regarding your operating system, the programs your computer runs when it's started, all the applications your computer is running at the time of the crash and other crashes on your computer during the previous month. If you don't trust us with the information generated in this text file, feel free to delete the sections of information you think are private or irrelevant. Even without your system information the data on the map that crashed and your description of the crash are very important, so please don't hesitate to edit this file, if it makes the difference for you between sending a crash report and not sending it. BF2 Crash dump When BF2 (or any of its mods) crashes, it should automatically create a dump (dmp) file, saying what went wrong. The Crash Reporter should automatically detect your dmp file. This file only contains data about BF2 and not other system information like in the previous section. (64-bit Windows XP and Vista do not generate crash dumps.)

If the system information file is generated, the submit button will become available. Click this button to send the crash report to the FH2 dev team. We thank you very much for each CTD you report and hopefully it will shed light on the causes of these crashes.

Yeah, I've been using it a couple of times now.

But I gotta tune down the essays when I report. Found myself writing all kind of mumbo-jumbo.

I'm having a bit of a problem with the crash reporter. For some reason, the window cuts off everything below the editing button. I can't expand the window, and it duly won't allow me to submit=/

Same here. That is why I was wondering about the mechanics of this report...

Ehm is it normal that pop ups everytime you shut down FH2? Never have CTD's or disconnects but everytime when I shutdown the game I get the request to report my 'error'.

Who says that it isn't an error. Maybe the devs never want you to shut down the game;)

Well, Von Mudra and Gen'l Knight, we're not sure what the problem is, but you can probably get around it by highlighting the map and then pressing enter to submit the report.
