Seats for infantry on back of tanks are usefull so infantry doesn't lag behind (running) over greater distances where there is no iminent threat of attack. That way they can keep close to the tank and protect it from enemy (AT) infantry attacks. If infantry runs behind the tank, the tank often finds itself too far foreward without any infantry support....the other way around the tank would be greatly slowed by keeping up with the speed of running infantry.
It is a great way to enable infantry to keep up with tanks. Ofcourse infantry can use APC, trucks and jeeps aswell, but these will be an easier multikill target for enemy tanks, and you cannot leave them unoccupied behind for too long.
However, more recent tanks appeared without this feature.
So my question is : are they really usefull, should they be on all or most tanks ( if possible ) and do you use them ?
You dont really need it since most people either get in Tanks or they just jump on with out pressing E so they can shoot and move with the tank.
Indeed, I'd rather hop on the back of the tank and ride along, hiding behind the turret, keeping me safe from small-arms fire.
i agree with u, beast. if the places are a bit better chosen, so u are not in direct fire lines, they can be very usefull. its perfect for infantry support, which every tank needs earlier or later. i hope there will be more tanks with those spots, i think almost every tank need 2 spots, even if he has place for a front and top mg gunner.

I find that I can't get on the back of most tanks, I guess due to the deck height. What would be cool is if every tank had one rear deck seat, and when you exited, you ended up on top. Kind of like the M36, you can load the turret on that thing like a howdah on one of Hannibal's elephants :D
The animation should be fixed and they should be better positioned, behind the turret and the hull like in this picture:
i try to hop on any tank i can - especialy british tanks are well suited for this - fast, flat and quite durable - i cant imagine playing el al on foot alone
but i never use 'enter vechicle' - it sucks because you cant shoot, and CANT choose way off the tank - ie. tank is being ambushed by form left, i'd like to run right to avoid being shot at, so i pres 'enter' and i appear on the.. left side (because i sat on the left side) - i prefer to have a choice
ps. prok is so bright? jeez.. i have to tweak my gfx.. because i feel like playing it at dusk
One option that might be more connductive to having people hitch a ride on tanks is if they could actually fire their weapon while situated on the tank, like how you can fire out of vehicles in battlefield Vietnam. Either way, I still like the option to ride on the back of tanks. It keeps me from walking so much.
I like to ride on the back of the tank crouching behind the turret, this way you can look around and jump of when it gets hot.
I think it would be a great idea to enable infantry ti hitch a ride on all tanks, as wellas being able to fire at the same time. A few weeks back I also proposed the option of allowing the tank driver to drop down to 'infantry speed' where the tank would travel at the same speed as infantry thus providing cover. Most the replies to this were oddly dismissive. :uhm:
