If you pass off the chance of downloading FH and you have broadband then you probably have ADD.

There's no way in hell FH is every going to get smaller. It will only get bigger.

Also, about the dice maps. You do know that the FH bocage map is 105kb right?

All DICE maps take up little to no room in the mod, unless we've done something to the /textures/ as the textures take up about 90percent of a maps filesize.

What take up the room is the 700 mb texture.rfa and the 200mb sound.rfa ;)

Plus consider this. Custom maps normally run on the order of about 25 to 50 mb each, depending on how big the map itself is and how much of the worldsize is actually seen ingame and needs to be textured. Also consider this, I made a count of how many maps FH contains that carry textures, including retexture DICE maps. The count currently stands at 33 map that are contained within the FH installed, plus about 15 maps that you can get from other sources. ;)

I say:

Bigger is better.

No mod has as much content. Anyone who can't download overnight or even set a bandwidth limit in FlashGet and CS till 5 am is a moron. FH is growing in players, the servers are crazy full now most of the time, so at least someone is downloading it.

BF Pierce/Lightning: Any download statistics you guys have from Fileplanet or something you could post?

For me, size wasn't the problem since I downloaded .6 the very first day it came out. It was the stupid Clickteam installer that got me. Each time I tried installing it (both 1 and 2), it would give me some weird error and quit.

Well two weeks ago I finally decided to reformat my computer and I found the FH installs. Tried installing, and same crap on a FRESH XP install. So just for kicks I transferred the files across the network and tried installing it on another computer... and it worked for some odd reason! I transferred the FH folder back to my computer and now I can play. It took months of disappointment, but I finally got it installed. I even RARed the folder back up so I wouldn't have to install with Clickteam again... The past two weeks playing FH has been great though!

I hope no one else has a problem with the Clickteam installer. My computer always hated it (FH and some other mods for different games). So this is a plea to the modmakers NOT TO USE THE CLICKTEAM INSTALLER.

Ah, I miss .5 FH. I really do. There was many stuff that I love and hate about .6.

While it isin't historically accurate, I loved using the M1 Garand in Invasion of the Phillipines. The springfield is honestly boring for me. I loved using the "BF" flight physics. FH is good but not the same fun.

and quality > quantity I'd say, there's so many maps in FH that I really miss playing some of the maps that I enjoyed playing in .5 like Invasion of the Phillipines. I had good memories on that map... ah, the .5 days...... (I probably loved the map for the U.S brownings. I love maps with brownings and MGs)

Phillipenes is still supported.. I think. I was playing it just the other day. No server runs it though because its a bad map. There's transportation issues.

If they have 56K why dont they just start the d/l before they go to bed and check on it when they get up the next day?

And if you use a program that lets you resume d/l's so much the better.

All new games steadily increase in size. It is an error to think a new FH version is not a new game but tied to the original bf1942 retail game concerning system hardware requirements, if it was FH could never be increasingly better each version and offer so much quality.

Many newer games are based on older engines like for example QuakeIII, but that never means the requirements are the same. It isn't any diffrent for FH.

If we all were whining new games get bigger and more demanding, and we need to upgrade our systems regularly we would still be playing pixel tennis or pixel donky kong om MSX computers.

Being a gamer is a hobby, and an expensive one for a fact. It will cost you (or your parents ) a new system each 2 years. If you cannot keep up with that, don't whine here, but take the whining to your parents, friends, girlfriend or wherever your money is going to/ is dependend on. All gamers have a private life that is important too.....it is a matter of choices and how much gaming is worth to you.

And don't forget : you cannot stop progress, it will go on and on always, with or without you.

you have prob already proved that it does, but incase you have not, let me tell you, out of the many people i know who play BF, i am the only one with FH, that because i left the computer on over night to download. They are scared of the size.

The size of FH scared potential-gamers, It's true. I've some friends that love BF, but BF + FH mod take up more than 3 GB (near 4 I think), and some people think that this is excesive for a game + one mod. And when a new update is near I feel fear too :D I've 'only' a 256 DSL connection, and 1.2 GB is not a lot if I could download it at full speed. But some download mirrors are full or have a limited download speed. Download mirrors as Fileplanet simply sucks. I prefer to use www.filemirrors.com to find good mirrors to download the files (try it if you don't know that site). I downloaded 0.61 with Bittorrent, and it was nice. High speeeeeddd ;) I think FH main installer need to be smaller to get more new players. What about have an installer with needed textures, objects, etc. and only the most played FH maps (like omaha, gold beach and others), and release the other maps as a pack or single maps? To be under the '1 GB' release size will be an advantage. It's the 'download collective subconscious limit' :D. If new players can see FH without downloading 1.3 GB I'm sure they would download the full stuff after try it. When you see FH workin' you get in love :naughty:
