Hey all, I'm just throwing this out as a bone for discussion. I'm curious as to what everyone thinks about the current roster of FH maps. Compared to any other custom maps for FH or maps for other competitor mods, or even mod add-ons are there any things you feel lack sometimes in our current bunch of maps, gameplay wise, atmosphere, tactical layout etc. (Example either Finnwars or Norwegian Resistance has destructable fence, bridge, um, operational door on a house (make a standoff??). Also, which maps that have previously been removed from FH would you like to see return (berlin outskirts, pavlov)? Which maps would you like to see completely redone (berlin, market garden, tobruk, etc) and which theater/s do you think still need love? Finally, which maps do you see that rarely get server rotation, and why do you think that is? Eastern Blitz, Crete, etc.. I like all the maps, I have my favorites and the ones I'm a little tired of or don't do much for me. Also sometimes when checking out another mod/s I may say to myself at times, man it'd be cool if FH had this, or did it this way 'cause it adds atmosphere etc. I may as well ask in this one thread as well, I know there's a pegasus bridge map in the works (though Otolikos has just released one) which contains a nice custom static, and as well the winner from the fanbased mappack will get a nice custom static or vehicle, but someone asked a while ago if we may see custom statics that really add to the atmosphere of a map and are specific only to that city/area, like say an important building/statue/streetscape. *puts on flame-retardant suit*

We need more maps which make use of FH's awesome statics, just take a look at the new Foy to see the difference between them and DiCE's. Also, we need more maps like In the Hell of Bocage which are well layed out and not cartoonish like some maps.

I'd like to see remakes of Operation Market Garden, Tobruk, Berlin (Reichstag - please no more identical street maps that everyone seems to be making) and El Alamein the most.

I like maps that are big and have very flat landscapes, with small villages or towns, that utilize custom objects. I'm thinking along the lines of WWIIOL's battles featuring tanks with infantry support. What I dont like to see is maps like (no offence) Supercharge where everything is neon, weird camel statics, a strange hill and arrows on runways made out of barrels. Sorry, but maps like that just dont look right.

I loved the variations on some battles like you mentioned -The Omaha Beach Charlie Sector was an excellent example. From what i have studied of this battle it is the best map i have seen on any game that depicts Omaha beach. I would liek to see some more variations on market garden as well and perhaps add the Hurtgen forest.

This is a good topic, but Gobo, answer some of your questions ;)

It does look strange, but I believe some airstrips in the desert were marked off with empty fuel drums in this fashion or another.

I am really into making the maps as realistic as the real ones, yet still balanced (if they weren't in real life) For example in Supercharge, the hill doesnt look right around the existing terrain.

I would like to see Arnhem and Operation Market Garden merged into one better one (as is being planned at the moment) I would like to see a few tweaks on most maps to really make them the most real maps around. I really would like the atmosphere to be engineered on each map. (pacific maps = long view distance, foy = foggy dawn feel (I think it was a dawn attack?)

They made some really great maps. I especially like the new Pacific maps

But Berlin,Battle of foy and some other maps need improvement.

I just played an Atlantic map for the first time since .61. I'm used to them being laggy and not being in any server rotation. Even now without the lag they aren't in server rotations much. There was only like 10 of us there, but it was a blast. I would love to see more of these naval maps. Maybe an objective map where the targets for the Axis are Allied shipping, with the Allies getting a full convoy with destroyer defenses. Maybe the Allies must hunt down an escaped U-Boat with vital info an sink it as an Allied Objective. Or any other variation of the kind of scenerios which played out on the oceans. These maps are truely a departure from the rest of the FH experience and solidify what makes the BF engine great, vehicular battles.

My favorites are the tank maps, sector 318, prokhorovka, orel, bulge, valirisk, breakthrough, arnhem. It's good to see them make use of the beautiful tank models the modelers and skinners work so hard on. Alpenfenstung, goodwood, and falaise are fun also. I like the fact that you can take the axis base as the allied in alpen. Unfortunately since .66 prokhorovka was dropped from the rotation on wolfgaming since it drops players. Hopefully its being fixed, this was my favorite map. The early war tank battles between germany and the smaller nations have little interest to me unfortunately. I think the maps are very well made, but the tanks leave little to be desired as far as firepower and speed even though they are beautifully modeled. I'd like to see more Eastern Front 1944 maps. Seelow Heights should be a good battle, depending on what hardware is offered in the map and the balance. Arnhem just needs a few fixes to help the axis, like 1 less destroyed vehicle on the bridge that impede traffic flow. There is really only room for one vehicle to get through the bridge and once its destroyed inbetween the two static wrecked vehicles, the rest are sitting ducks. It used to be axis had the advantage, now its the opposite, I know the map designers are looking for a happy medium, and it's almost there, but it sounds like the map is being redesigned anyway.
