not to start a war, folks. 1. a friend of mine is new to BF 2. he has a PS background 3. he is whining like a little monkey about the keyboard/mouse setup 4. i have seen it debated in the past (mouse versus the gamepad), where it seemed to be accepted that the mouse/board combo is superior. even saw this on a PS site where guys were scared of a mouse for the PS. now, FH to me is where the best of the best go to play. i am a C+ player in regular BF. in FH, i am barely a D-. everyone seems to be much better across the board. i am only not a "F" due to tactics. i just have to take my hat off when i run around a corner and a guy takes a knee and hits me in the eye with a K98. great shot. so, my question is this: i assume that you are a decent player, because you are 'here'. so what do you play with - mouse or pad? let's not get into it in this thead, please. just stick to what you use and how successful you are with it. i can't imagine a gamepad guy getting the better of me more than 10% of the time. but that is just my perception at this point. i would also be shocked if more than 2% of FH players use a gamepad. obviously, this only applies to non-plane combat. thoughts?
I am going to guess that 99% of the FH players use a mouse/keyboard setup. It would be hard to play effectively as a team IMO using a joypad: You would have to switch back and forth really to use radio commands, change positions in vehicles, map, chat, plus all the regular movement and shooting keys.
I play a mouse and a keyboard. I have always played on FPSes this way ever since I was a kid in the times of Wolfenstein 3d, I'm used to it and I now use them as if it was natural to me. I always sucked when using gamepads, in consoles or with computers (a friend of mine made me try his), so I would never trade my trusty mouse for these things. It might, however, come down to preference. If your friend is used to play on console games, using a gamepad is probably more "natural" to him.
However, most PC gamers are using the mouse/keyboard combo, and I have not heard of any "pro" FH player using one. I personally see the mouse and keyboard as better, but i'm probably biased :p
ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
gamepad.
eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwww
Gamepad`s are bad because you cant aim as fast, dont have as many buttons so you cant do all the commands and keyboard and mouse is just the way to go. Cookies and milk. Cookies and milk.
Mouse and keyboard. The mouse allows me greater accuracy and precision with less effort and with a lot less time.
The gamepad may be sorta fun, but I feel BF/FH aren't made for gamepads.
I'm a really good console player, but when it comes to accuracy, the mouse has no equal.
I always use mouse + keyb. Is the best option for FPS. Millions of people can't be wrong! :D
In FH and other FPS with planes sometimes I use the joystick, but ONLY for planes. Except WWII online, where I use joy + mouse to control tanks.
Say you friend console aren't for serious players. Welcome to the real war! ;)
ps. I can't believe you use the mouse in the 1st Wolfstein 3D. You couldn't look up and down, so keyb was my preferred system. Or may be I'm wrong and I'm talkin' about the way to man older Commodore 64 games :D
IMO, a mouse is neccesary to achieve accuracy in FPS games.
To answer you're question, I use a mouse and keyboard, as probarly "everyone" playing FH.
Oh and don't skimp out on the mouse either. A Logitech MX518 can be had for $30 now, and it's probably the best gaming mouse in existance. The G5 may have a higher resolution (2000dpi vs 1600) but it's a laser mouse, meaning it's really floaty feeling, and it doesn't work on most gaming mouse pads. Plus it doesn't have as many extra buttons either, and it's $50 (and no the adjustable weight tray doesn't do any real good).
I started playing BF with a thinkpad. meaning I used the trackpoint in the middle of the keyboard!!! I moved very reluctantly to another laptop and had to switch to the mouse. Im never going back!!!
