I dont know why most of the fh servers still set this "name_tag_distance" and "name_tag_distance_scope" to default distance(vanilla's).It is really annoying to see those red or blue tags above players or pointing your crosshair into bushes and shooting the guy just by reading his tag without actually seeing him or identifying an ambushing enemy from 1 km with naked eyes.It takes away all this realism feeling,i hope in time some servers will change this setting to lower levels just like fragthenet,fhw,fh,wolfpack-esl,fhnation etc. servers.

Thats a server side setting. You would have to talk to the server's admins for the server you play on.

I totally agree. Especially in some maps like gold beach and f.pocket, hiding in bushes makes the most part of the gameplay. But seeing someone's name above bushes...totaly ruins the game :uhoh: Also in some occasions you can see the tag without seeing the opponent. For example above a hill or in the building. etc.. FH server admins should lower or close the tag distance for enemies.

That's what bothers me (although I'm not shy to take advantage of it :D) I don't worry too much about tags when the enemy is in my LOS, since a computer monitor isn't as good as the human eye, IRL, some people would be visible if they hid in a suspicious location and you thought to look there. I do like close-range enemy tags though. That way, if I get close to an enemy, and it turns out be an Evil, I know better than to try and knife them, and can just shoot them in the back from short range. :D

It prevents team killing. But I agree it is an exploit, since it counts for everybody it's still fair.

The ESF server is going to be putting the enemy tag distance to a far lower setting so all you guys who like ambushing can now :D.

We have our tag distances lower than most (40 and 80). I personally prefer no tag distance, but when we tried that, it didn't go over well. Too many players do not have the ability to use their mini maps to distinquish between friendlies and enemies. We find our current settings to be pretty good. We still get the accidental tks but not a bad as when name tags are competely off.

I'm sure some of you have played on the 3rd ID server for XWW2. No tags = lots of TK'ing (especially on the night maps). But I do prefer the experience - makes you think a bit before pulling the trigger. The vehicles would definitely need to be locked up, though. I don't want to have to try and figure out if that tank has an enemy or a friendly in it. I should be able to determine that by just looking at the model :)
