I am just going to begin playing FH this evening. I just installed it this morning and had enough time before work to jump on an empty server and dick around a bit. Well, let me tell you, I almost called in sick :D. Can't wait to get home and get playing. It seems like this mod will reward realistic play, as opposed to the quake-style that vanilla has become. Coupla questions: In general, what differences are there in gameplay between vanilla and FH? (Not looking for specifics, just a general idea) How do I set up a local server for practicing? I tried to do it the usual way, and all the GC maps were there, but no FH maps. Thanx in advance.

Hi, FH is a semi-realistic mod which means German tanks own all :)

  • All tanks apart from the heavies can be taken out with one shot to the side and rear,
  • Rifles kill in 1 shot
  • Snipers are not a class they are a pick up kit
  • MG are lethal and can cut you down in milliseconds
  • Planes fly like shit but the bombs are powerful

So basically its a harder game than vanilla which is arcadey. To set up a server to practise on: Multiplayer --> Create Game ----> Select maps and gameplay type ---> Start Local :cya:

welcome! you will enjoy FH i guarantee! :D

Well it is more realistic and the overal gameplay is better. It has more vehciles and maps (obviously) and they are of good quality. What exactly makes the gameplay better i don't know, it just feels better, but my guess is that it because FH is more realistic and their maps and vehicles are awesome.

How do I set up a local server for practicing? I tried to do it the usual way, and all the GC maps were there, but no FH maps.

You can only "host" one mod at the same time, so follow the same steps you use to set up a local server for bf1942/GC but now for FH (and FH only). I'm sure that you know how to start the mod ingame and create a local server so i will not go over that right now.

Also I would say because of the deadliness of most weapons in the game, you will be more successful playing a more static, defensive type of style than run-n-gun. A Bren or MG42 gunner in a good spot will rack up an insane score as opposed to somebody running around with a thompson.

Thanx for the quick answers guys :) Looks like this is what I'm looking for as far as gameplay. That's one thing I preferred in BFV to BF42. By the time you know you've been hit, you're dead. :D Does the increased deadliness of MG's make area suppression a viable tactic? Does it make fixed position MG's less of a deathtrap? As far as the local server thing goes, I think I get it. If not, I'll post again. One thing I was glad to see different from vanilla BF42 was the tank trajectories. That P4(H?) had a nice flat shot to it. Are the battle sights on the tanks adjustable? When I saw that view, for a second I thought I was in my trusty PIIIF, getting ready to advance on Leuven, and tried to set for 500m before I realised this wasn't WW2OL :) About the planes: are they more amenable to E-fighting and other sim tactics than BF42, or they just harder to fly? (ie DC vs. BFV choppers)

Suppression fire works like a hot-damn in this mod! Hose down an area with an MG42 and anyone you don't kill has dove for cover, but is pinned down and needs to come up with an exit plan. You won't want to be constantly laying down a curtain of fire with a fixed MG though, because it tends to attract rifle fire. As for the tank sights what you see is what you get. I for one would love to see a zoom feature, but currently they use alt-fire for the hull MG and I doubt that will change anytime soon. And on to planes, I don't think you could go so far as to call it simulated energy fighting, although compared to the other mods there are marked differences in the performance of aircraft. This means for instance that the BF109 can out-turn the Spitfire, but the Spitfire can outclimb the BF109. Knowing the strengths and weaknesses of the different planes will definitely help you out, unlike Vanilla or DC or most other mods.

if you use the ppsh you get quad power and a power-up shield. If you run with the ppsh or thompson you get increased accuracy and the abillity to deflect rifle bullets with your face. also jumping helps. And the arisaka has a great bug where if you fire it you cant switch to pistol until the reloading animation has finished.

watchout for FactionRecon he hates newcomers cause he wants FH to be a underground mod with only people who are on these boards for almost a year.

By the way, please don't abuse the rifle grenades and have fun. Oh, and you'll have a lot more knifing oppotunities in the game as well.
