This is such a shame to see this happen. Ya know to me FH was the greatest game ever created. FH2 just fails so much to me in comparison to .7. Did FH loose a lot of staff or something, what happened?!
off topic much?

Its alot more complicated than that... But instead of writing a small essay about it I can summarize it to you.
FH1 was based on a WW2 game. FH2 is based on a modern game. This means that on an average Fh2 map, only 1-2% of the material is made by DICE. The rest had to be made from total scratch.
Models, UV-mapped, Textured, Normal-mapped + Exported Textures (painted, "skinned") Sound Vehicles, Weapons Animations Maps Codes to all of the above New gamemodes and Python codes A damagesystem made from scratch
All this needed research + also learning how to actually edit the BF2 engine, with little or no support from DiCE.
Its totally different than modding bf42.. bf42 is an "open" game.. meaning you more or less just do it. Bf2 is a "todays game" (2005 games still counts as modern game engines within the companies) and it means everything takes a lot longer. FH2 has been out 11 months. FH1 was out like 4 years when the last release came. Making a FH1 map took ~100 hours. A FH2 map can take three or four times longer to reach the standard of Sfakia, Sidi, Mareth & those..
If you think about what you actually have received (for free) in 11 months + the 2.15 patch soon to be released, its a HELL of a lot more than 11 months of FH1 releases.. in Work-time per dev.
Good thing is the mod is reaching (or have reached) the "top of the roller-coaster climb" meaning most "base" work is soon done, (when Normandy build is finished) it opens up a few other theatres as well, and maps and weapons and statics can be added as patches and the mod grow in the same way FH1 did after 0.65 release (for example when Americans are in, you can produce entire italian campaign with just some new statics) etc...
Ok it turned into a small essay anyway, My point is that FH2 is more than just a mod, IMO it is a game, just like BF2142 is a game, or BFV was a game.. FH2 has more content than BFV had, and IMO could be released by DiCE as Battlefield2: Forgotten Hope like RtR for ex. was to BF42 . easily - if you look at the content and the professionality of it all.
Also if you make a list of WW2 FPS games, really do it, there will be quite clear which WW2 game is the best when fh2 normandy is out... no other game can compare with it, some have better inf-engines, smaller maps, better sound, better animation or more hi-res textures maybe, but no game has it all like Fh2 has: ambience, high quality models and textures, huge maps for full ww2 warfare, tanks, planes, epic firefights in both closed urban areas and open vast battlefields, realism gameplay, historical accuracy etc etc... If you know another game that has it all, please name it so I can try it.
I never even get it when people say FH2 is nothing compared to FH1... I loved Fh1... People never got why I still play a 2002 game in 2008... But fact is, FH1 was a whole lot more arcade. And to squeeze more realism in a game like this without killing gameplay is revolutionary. Games are still making their way cautiously from arcade to realistic.. Anyone remember how MOH-Allied Assault was compared to COD. Then compared COD with COD4... Even BF42 versus 2142... Damage system has changed to make it closer to a 1shot kill (COD4 versus COD2)... Sound effects more realistic, proper weighting of guns etc... etc....
FH2 is well ahead of its time - I think most people are shortsighted even dissing FH2 in comparison to 1... Look at any desert map in FH1 versus that in FH2.... Do you really think you would have spent so long playing FH1 if all you had was Supercharge, Elalmein, Tobruk, Gazala and the like? The desert in FH2 is a hell lot more active and alive than that in 1.... Imagine Normandy then...
I keep telling people how no game sounds 1/2 as cool as FH1, and inspite of its lack of distant sound variants, FH2 leaves FH1's sound effects in the dust... Firing a bolt action rifle in FH1 was enough to make you want to play a 44 American map - The M1 was a breath of fresh air versus the No4 or k98.... Don't think you'll say that about these k98s and No4....
Listen... Like Lobo says when he isn't blasting you out... Be patient... It'll happen
I just hope the devs would consider adding 'neck motion' as seen in next-gen games ... i.e the whole running and having the screen stationary is out... New games such as Crisis, COD4, BIA-HH etc tend to have this feel, as though you have a neck and move it naturally when you do stuff, like the way COD4's screen lists when you reload... Or how much of the arm you see once in a while, seeing your feet when you look down...
FH2 has the neck thing when you dash, and the neck-turn when you reload the MG34... But It sure could use a few more to give it a longer shelf life... Otherwise... really, Fh2 is in a league of its own.... I can play Crisis etc for so long before it gets monotonous, FH2 on the other hand with it s random engine versus COD4 etc's scripted one... Makes everything anew eveytime I play it...
I bet the 2.15 patch will be released by Christmas.
Maybe most people who got into FH1, were like me... We came in when it was done, or almost done.
They may have never seen it when it was still at its beginning... And slowly being built up.... Sure I can't wait for FH2 Normandy, but I understand the kind of work it would take getting there... Sometimes I wish there was something that could be said to alleviate the fans the pain of waiting... It sure is alot to ask from a following, without them getting bored... But it sure is a hell lot more work to get there - And the devs are like the x-men or something to me... You have no idea how cool a group of people they are making a mod this good, under these conditions and in such good time, weekly updates and everything
Personally, I'd suggest the devs holding off releasing FH2.15 till they can get the Yanks in.
It might give the game a new breath of life for a little longer before Normandy... The semi-automatic and American equipment tend to give them game a sense of increased speed of play...
And everyone just LOVES... the Yanks. With the content they've got so far, all that's needed is the models and animations as well as one or 2 maps with them on it...
It's work, but I think it will be worth the wait... AND, I won't mention this ever again... I know some people will appreciate this :-)... Different part of the world, very different way of expressing, sorry
Screen movement is a good thing but considering BF1942's bob effect, most gamers apparently preferred to glide around like in even older games so that it was disabled by default in later patches. It's like the mass market only begrudingly accepts realism over time.
There is a point there true...
problem with adding these "bob effects" some people get really SICK (like seasick) from them. normal games just have a checkbox where you can turn this of. but a mod doesnt have this option so you have to compromise .
and another thing from page 1 im not 100% sure but some "Australian" models feature a nice new mustache, special grown for the ladies . :D
About the "buggy" 2.0 I think there really wasn't so many bugs but the problem was with many CTDs. People can think those as bugs and when your game CTD every round and half it can give you a really bad impression (it was horrible for me and I really didn't play much). 2.10 remedied those problems very well (at least for me) and now I can actually play FH2 without fearing CTD every minute.
