Lets have a discussion about leaving out maps that come with the FH game.
Almost all servers do this. Now i can understand if a map is not optimal designed (yet) and it causes choppy gameplay for many players, you may want to leave that map out on technical issue grounds.....
But leaving out completely well functioning maps beats me.....
Few servers rotate Battle of Britain or Coral sea.......reason seems to be bunnyhopper type players do not like these maps and claim they are "boring"
Well, that doesn't fool me, watching general behaviour in such maps ( parachuting over enemy carriers and crashlanding on British land with an infantry kit ) they are too unskilled to attack ships, factories and radar posts in bomber aircraft, are shot down like pigeons in fighter aircraft, and are unable to down aircraft with flak or in gunner positions in bombers......
Admins that are sensitive to such lousy players demands better have a "bunnyhop" or "nOOb" designation in their server name.....
Ofcourse, not all players are good at every aspect of FH : there is artillery shooting, flak shooting, there is dogfighting, torpedo launching and dive bombing, bomber defence gunning and more that really takes special skills........literally everyone can run 'n gun as infantry.......what i don't understand is players who do not wish to master special bf1942 (FH ) skills up to a basic level.......why the hell do they play a bf1942 based game and not some WWII run 'n gun shooter like COD, DOD, MOHAA, RTCW and many more ????
Besides that, if a map is technically in good order, there are no bad maps. As a soldier in real life you rarely get to pick your battleground, you will have to fight on the spot and situation you are sent in. That often means means unfavourable terrain and odds against you. With this in mind, a good FH player should really be able to fight in all maps, under any condition. Almost always a "map that sucks" is in reality "players that suck" wich are just too stupid to understand the strategy of a map.
For example : In Coral sea you might want instead of bailing over the enemy carrier and spawncamp enemy players there, or get shot down in individual dogfights or attacking the carrier all alone witch results in a pointless death by enemy flak without so much as denting the enemy carrier's paint, maybe it is time to figure out what the strategy of this map is.......
Take off and circle your own carrier ( protected by it's flak guns ) and wait untill the others are up too.....might take a minute or two but then you can have a massive wave of as many aircraft as there are players on your team ( the spawn system in that map specificly allows that ) and you can bet most bombers of such an attack wave will reach that carrier and sink it in only one attack.......individually you stand no chance in that map......but the situation changes if you attack with 10 or more bombers at once, preferably protected by a few fighters.
And what do you know........in BoB it works exactly the same, with the same fast independent vehicle spawn system.......i guess you can imagine how unhealthy it will be for enemy fighters attacking a group for bombers with ( at least 1 ) tailgunner(s) in them ( concentrated fire ) and how resistant that factory is going to be to bombs of 10 bombers at once.......and it is a general good idea to divebomb with the Ju 88......then all the bombs hit the target, when you level bomb most will miss the target wich means a lot of wasted time in return trips to rearm or respawn ( the skilless ones that rather suicide then rearm their aircraft )
I guess figuring out maps is too advanced for the average run 'n gun hopper, and that degrades a perfectly good game into spawncamping chaos, and idiots who claim that is because the maps sucks so hard.....But should that mean the whole FH community only gets to play run 'n gun hopper-suitable maps ?
If people want to run a FH server, i think they should rotate all FH maps, unless they are techincally not ok.
I think the problem is too many players are so obsessed with high scores and winning, they forget to enjoy the game......try to defend a bomber as gunner sometime and survive it.......now that is a challenge, not boring at all. No one really cares for your highscore....better learn to enjoy the game.....and learn how to use everything in it......
No, the problem is that every map put out by the FH team is not applicable to PUB play, or they are unbalanced and unfair, or cause a lot of players to LEAVE their servers because the map is.. say it with me now.. BORING. Atlantic = boring. I don't care if you call me whatever, floating around in an empty sea in huge, laggy ships waiting for some other ship to shoot you isn't fun. FH is about action. No one plays FH for the Trucks. They play because of fighting, and because of the equipment FH has FOR fighting. If you don't fight, and fight often, it is boring.
Atlantic - boring, laggy Zielona Gora - spam camper spawn camping fest Karelia - unfair and boring once the russians have the flag Outskirts - spammy and laggy, no one likes spawning then dying Coral Sea - flight code is fuxed, aircraft gun damage is fuxed, is it really any surprise that servers don't play this?
No one is "too stupid to understand the strategy of the map". They get it, but they don't have fun playing it. The best way to keep players on your server, and in turn, have your server investment paid off, is to run maps that everyone likes. Maps like El Al, or Bulge. Maps where you can choose what you want to do, be it fly or tank or infantry. FH is a game and people play games to have fun. That's all there is to it. If a map sucks, it will be removed from rotation, and no one can blame the server admins for doing it.
Very good post Beast. I agree with everything you said, but the fact remains that although there are people like you and me out there who want good teammates and good strategized fights, we will always be out-numbered by the "casual gamer" who tends to do nothing but ruin the experience of others for his enjoyment (and quite possibly his friends seated around him).
It sucks yes, but that's the way things are for now, and until BF2 with it's ranking sytem that measures good teamlay, it will stay that way.

I disagree. This map is fun, assuming it isn't a rout when a few dickslap quick loaders all join the same team and capture all the flags before the other team even gets a chance to spawn.
The map is small and has few vehicles, meaning its just all-out infantry combat. Whenever this map comes up on WOLF with a full load of 46 players, it's always a ton of fun. Fast-paced and no-frills.

One of the main reasons I like Coral Sea and BoB. On these maps, no matter how slow your loading time, you have the chance to fly. And if you aren't that good, who cares? There's always planes spawning. IMO, more play of these maps, means more combat practice for inexperienced pilots. That means, after a while, more decent pilots on the other maps.
I'm hoping that integration of FHX will ensure that people will be more likely to practice offline before going online (that's what I'll be doing - especially with new flight-physics again)... but I may/will be disappointed :( as everyone will want to get online as soon as it's installed :)
Beast and Fraction, I find your attitude arrogant and ignorant. You seem to think your the kings of FH and you have more right to play it than anyone else. You look down on casual players as if they aern´t worthy to play your precious Mod. If you like flying Beast, fair enough. Find a server with planes and do your thing. But dont expect admins to adjust their servers just to suit your personal needs. Get your own server and set it up to suit yourself if you want. Normaly there is a good reason why admins take out certain maps. People play FH for fun and you can´t force people to play maps they dont want. They have the right to pick their battlefield, unlike real soldiers, because FH is a Mod/game. -Coral see is good fun with a small number of players but gets lame and frustrating with more than 20. -Battle of Britain sucks because the britisch Spitfires fly like rocks due to the bigged flight physics. You might see theres maps played more once the Devs give them more attention. -Other maps depend on the individuals personal taste. Some people might like Zilona Gora with 50 players, but the majority does not because Gora isn´t meant to be played with 50 people. -Karelia is simply unbalanced and truns into a campfest after 5 minuits. These are all good reasons not to host these maps. If you dont like it, tough luck...
Most maps have planes...so i dont see the need to worry about flying on Bob or Coral Sea...BoB has bugged Spit 1's, so what is the point of flying in it? Maybe i guess if you wanted to go axis and get a bunch of cheap kills...Plus most unskilled pilots just try to shoot you as you take off... Coral Sea has always been a crap map, even in vanilla...There are too many ways to get spawn camped and ways for people to get on your carrier and cause havok..Theres even a way to keep the whole enemy team stuck on the their carrier..me's not telling that tho... Zilona Gora I actually play quite alot on Wolf with up to 40 players and i find it quite fun...As long as the people who join first keep the teams even at the start, you can have some awsome battles...killing all the ppsh nubs is fun... Kareila I think i have only played once, cant really remember. Its not on Wolfs rotation, and i would guess for a good reason... Beast...it seems you are looking for a team based, objective style play...Problem is..you'll never get that with public servers...Pub servers are all run and gun, increase score type arenas where there is no TEAM, only I...you should look into joining TEAM WARFARE LEAGUE, or T.W.L. Its a league were teams compete to be #1. There is all teamwork in these..
BOW isn't the king hes just another victim to me :lol: The spitfire 1 on BOB is shitty but if you dive on a 109 or JU88 and put a long concentrated burst into them you can do alot of damage and if your very lucky get a kill :) And coral sea is runied by the fact the Zero dominates the Wildcats.
