And since it sells well, it's most likely to have sequels yearly. Well, it already does that. What is the FH team going to do? FH2 isn't even out that a new BF is coming soon already.

I hate franchise. UT is going the same way.

EA has never been my favorite game company... but what are you going to do? They publish a few games that I really enjoy. In my opinion BF 2142 just seems like a scheme to saturate the market and won't really posses anything new or ground breaking. Sure it'll have mechs, and this and that, but it really just comes off as Battlefield 2 with well... mechs and this and that. Hell even the spawn beacon idea isn't fresh. the FH2 team has talked about doing the same thing with a sort of spawn tent that squad leaders can place down.

And to answer your question I really don't think the team is too worried about the new release because of that. It's kind of like some clans/units. Everytime a new game or one that's been termed as "better" is released a lot of them rush to transfer over. Which in my opinion, done too much can and will ruin the integrity and community of such a group. I think they'll continue to work with the Battlefield 2 engine until something revoluntionary or different comes along.

I don't think the FH devs have much to worry about. Put it this way, Battlefield 1942 has been around for 4 (?) years old now and 2 sequels have been released and another one is on the way. Yet, people still play Forgotten Hope and at the peak times there can be hundreds playing. While FH has been released, it has had to compete with games such as Battlefield Vietnam, Battlefield 2, Half Life 2, World of Warcraft, Counter-Strike: Source, Red Orchestra and many, many others that will draw in a similar crowd to FH's fans. Yet still, people are eagerly awaiting the fan mappack for a mod on a 4 year old engine. My point is, FH2 will have many fans despite Battlefield 2142. Battlefield 2142 is to Battlefield 2 as Vietnam was to 1942. Noone needs to worry about the affect future sequels will have on FH .... for the moment.

Of course the devs may decide to switch to the slightly improved 2142 engine if it isn't too hard - I have no idea on what their plans on. So to answer your question, I'd guess they'll stick with the BF2 engine unless it's worth switching to the 2142 engine.

This has been discussed before and my take on it is this. BF:2142 is nothing more than what BF:Vietnam was for BF1942. Since FH didn't port to BF:Vietnam (Thank god..) I see no reason for FH2 to port to BF:2142.

No, BfV at least had normal mapping and a diferent system to add vegetation, BF2142 is the same engine as BF2.

Like Mp5-Killa says dozens games "killed" FH in these 4 years, always the same: For the God sake, release the new version now, <insert random game here> will be released next week, this is the end!!!!

You must also consider that BF2 has a much bigger player base than the previous Battlefield games ever had. BF2 usually has approximately 35,000 players online at the best time of the day. For BF1942 the corresponding figure was only 15,000 at the peak of its popularity three years ago. After BFV was released, that number dropped to 10,000. If we can expect a decline of a similar magnitude for the player base of BF2 after BF2142 comes out, BF2 will still have 23,000 players online at the best time of the day. That is still considerably more than BF1942 has ever had. So the potential player base for FH2 will still be bigger than ever was possible for FH1. Also, one great obstacle to FH1's popularity was the fact that it was a WW2 mod for a WW2 game. This time it will be WW2 mod for a modern combat game, so it will have something different to offer and it will be much more appealing in the eyes of the public. So there's no need to worry, I'm pretty sure FH2 will be more popular than FH1 ever was.

Lobo and MP-5 pretty much summed it up. It propably won't be worth it unless a change is worth it due to obvious improvements in the engine that are simply needed. Expecting an other BF: V scenario this is highly unlikely. Never say never but I still doubt FH2 would move to BF 2142.
