I have been wondering over something for a while now.....

In powerfull servers it is not uncommon to see anywhere from 40 - 64 player slots, and there are many of these servers available for FH nowadays wich is a good thing.

But...

I have the idea that FH maps were not made with this number of players around. Take fall Weiss....

To me on a powerfull 64 slot server this is one hell of an irritating map. Only a few tanks a side that take a long time to respawn, two aircraft and a few transports. At map start it is not a problem, the transports usually wait and load players and transport them to where the fighting is. But when you are killed - for germans the problem is worse - you spawn far from any place of fighting with no vehicle anywhere soon....that means if you want to fight you will have to run a couple of minutes. If the fighting is perticularly heavy in a certain area and you are killed a lot it means you spend more time running to get soewhere then fighting :uhm:

Actually most FH maps suffer from a lack of vehicles, in most maps there are only about 3 tanks average per side, plus maybe a few at outpost flags.

That this is not nessesary at all i saw in BG42, load the Citadel map and see what i mean. I think it is better to have too much vehicles and some are left unused in the base then have too few and everybody running a long time, or more probably camping in the base for a respawn or even - what happens a lot - TK each other because they don't want to wait another few minutes. Or they go camping an enemy base for vehicles, but this base ofcourse has the same problem.

In a 24 player server with 12 players each side Fall Weiss is probably ok in vehicle availability and transport.......but in a 40-64 player server it is defenatly not.

Because of the sheer number of vehicles BG42 put in Citadel, wich is also a big map without rediculous amount of fog.....it doesn't lag ( not that i have noticed ) and because of it i wonder why FH mappers are putting so few vehicles in their maps.

And this isn't solved by a few vehicles that respawn faster or even independend of existing vehicles......that is always bad, ( makes destroying vehicles almost useless ) exept on carriers that cannot hold their historical amount of aircraft.

Besides all that, i miss the possebility of groups of tanks advancing together in FH.......as they did for real. I am not takling about a Tiger beng followed by a Stug......i am talking about 4-6 Panzer IV H for example advancing together, or even 4-6 Tigers advancing together.......and a group of Wespe's in support, not a single one. Real Tigers were used in groups of 9 and later even 13......

That it can be done BG42 has proven in most of their maps......I hope FH mappers become a little less focussed on infantry sometime soon, and make good vehicle maps aswell.

Heh, it's true that Fall Weiss easily get to be a plain ol' running marathon. Quite annoying.

As for the amount of vehicles... I tried BG42's Kharkov today on LAN, and was overwhelmed by the larger amount of vehicles in the map. I think 2 of both KV-1s and T-34, as well as a KV-2 for the Soviets.

I think the danger of what Beast of War suggested is that the game would end up being a vehicle vs. vehicle battle only. If everyone could have a vehicle, they most likely would take them.

Personally I haven't so far seen many servers that actually have 64 slots - and checking ASE now, only in one of them that is for FH are there people, and only 18. Even the WOLF server only has 46 slots.

I love that map do to the whole "people used to whoring vehicles get owned" part.

Ehhh heh I dunno I think that a crapload of vehicles would get pretty irratating. There are people who like infantry combat more you know....

People usually get annoyed when FH is related to DoD, but im gonna do it anyway...In Day of Defeat you notice that the entrances to the battle areas are blocked off. These are places where tanks either cannot go or would easily get outflanked or have a hard time getting around in. If you could add more rubbel, collappsed buildings (more statics=more lag, but more statics nonetheless) people would rely more on their infantry capabilities to capture a flag. this would also add a little bit more atmosphere than the usual town with open streets and untouched buildings.

I dislike it when theres too many vehicles, since you lack enough infantry to cover them. If theres a shortage of anything, it's transport vehicles. Too often you have a group of tanks moving out of your base.... and infantry are left running on foot behind them. Infantry are supposed to cover armour, and it rarely happens because the tanks just zoom away leaving its infantry cover in the dust.

You mean : the majority of the players teamkilling each other for the few vehicles that are available, and the rest camping in the main base untill these few vehicels respawn ? I don't see anything enjoyable in this.

Well, almost all maps in FH can be classified as "infantry combat" already.....the avarage 3 tanks or few aircraft in a map do not change that.

So what is so wrong about a vehicle focussed map for a change ? Prohorovka could be that if only it had more vehicles.......the map is big enough.

Infantry hopping about in the vast stretched russian steppes and plains and in vast deserts in Afrika is a bit silly, don't you think ?

I guess i will never understand why all these infantry hoppers are not playing COD or MOHAA online instead of BF1942 mods......because vehicles is what is diffrent about BF1942.......

As for having more vehicles in maps, it really comes down to how the map should be played. Is it supposed to be an infantry map or a vehicle map or a combination of both.

What about adding more soldier riding spots to vehicles like the t34 has? I think that would help out a little bit for transporting people. If a vehicle is big enough to carry lots of people then it should have the maximum amount of spots the game engine allows.

The Jackalx2kIf that bothered you then you would play on the wolf server. I'd kick someone so fast if they TKed for a vehicle or for any reason on purpose.

Over a minute is just too long? I think you should go play Quake 3 of you're looking for instant action? ;)

There is a STARK difference between Q3 random chaos and FH action. Walking across a map for a long time IS boring, and it dosen't mean I should go play Q3 because I'm an ADD aflicted Linkin Park CS-er. It means that there should be a few more jeeps in the map :)

Or motorcycles......dunno, where kettenrads around by 1939 ? Else them too :)

And where is the german artillery in that map ? That 88 is useless with that volatile and inflexible artillery pulling vehicle attached to it.....besides the fact the germans not yet used flak 88 as ground/anti tank artillery :mad:

We need something to hammer that village across the river with, and kill all the camping hoppers there before we cross over..... i don't care if it is horse drawn or self propelled artillery.... :D
