PacketlossPetelag is not a networking term... it just means delayed response packetloss is a networking term, NAT is a networking term your computer can lag behind due to system problems, not exclusive to networking...
I don't get graphic/computer-related "lag." I get slow framerates occasionally, but not lag, i.e. I don't get behind, or lag other players. Bad network connections cause me lag other players. So maybe lag isn't a proper network term, but it applies to network connections and not graphic slowdowns because of underpowered computers. At least in my experience.
If I put AF on 4x and AA at 6x, my game would go to hell in framerates. I don';t know what it is. I think I just need more RAM is all. But I have that crappy RDRAM stuff where you have to have 2 sticks of the same type....makes it harder to shop for.
tvihI just simply don't understand how some people can run FH better with inferior equipment than others with supposedly superior equipment :( Many people seem to run the game fine with very high details with a comp as good as or worse than mine, but I myself can't, because the game goes all choppy and stuff.
Maybe, it's because you put all the settings to maximum. Kinda makes sense eh, you may have better hardware, but putting the settings on a high level means that you ask a lot of your computer, and it might just not be able to handle it. I don't have my settings on max either, and I have a medium end computer, FH runs great on 32 max servers. You should tone down some graphical settings, and especially sound settings. A good soundcard is very important.
my pc has a 9600 and im running it at 1280 by 1024, everything piped up, 1800+ athlon xp, 512mb sdram, all runs smooth as a pixie thats been greased up with very greasy grease stuff. Probably is just your drivers.
If you have 101 pieces of crap installed on your PC [like me] then expect mnachine performance to be slow.
Try disabling firewalls and antiviruses as well as any messenger programs to free up resources.
schmoppavery good point. Lag is a networking term. I was getting lag last night in Berlin. Prokhorvka is ok for me, except when I fly over the NE city, then I get slow framerates... I'm running with a 9800Pro 128MB 405/360, 4xAA and 6xfiltering I think... 1600x1200.
By video lag they mean FPS drop. People just don't know the exact term.

I dunno... call me a stickler for the English language, but when someone says they are lagging [behind], they mean they are not keeping up with the rest, i.e. behind, or lagging... Of course, people also always confuse they're, their, there, and to/too, etc. whatever.
Hail of NailsAre these options in the Video Menu? Because I don't have either texture sharpening or anti-aliasing and it doesn't give me the option to go up to 1280x1024 res. I have Graphics Quality and Effects Quality sliders, set to 100%. Environment Mapping, Lightmaps, and Shadows clickboxes, all activated. Texture Quality and View Distance sliders, set to 100%. And finally Alt Spawn interface, but that doesn't matter here. Am I missing something here? I know my computer is capable of it. 2.7 GHz, 1024 MB RAM, 256 MB ATI Video card.
you can edit the video.con file to 1280x1024 if you want to ..
