I though you needed pixel shader whatever and the GF6s didn't have it..?? May be just my bad memory though.
vM, I know the GeForce series is kinda funny, and a card just few "hundred" above another could be a world of difference. But on my "semi-p.o.s." box, I was running a 2.4 ghz with 1G RAM and a GeForce 5200 - and I could hardly play BF2 online. The vid card IMO was the main prob. Maybe your 5500 is fine - but you absolutely have to get 2G of RAM IMO.
I'll be running FH2 on a 2.8ghz with 2G RAM and a GeF 7900 card - and I'm wondering if that'll work without probs
I wish I had the comp your going to be running it on>__<
I plan on trying to get another gig of RAM, and doing my best to upgrade my vidcard, but no guarantees. Currently, in order to play BF2 online, I'd have to have on absolute lowest settings, and I still lag....
I remember that i played BF2 first on my GF5600 and was able to run it only on low settings and 800*600 with that one. Later i got a GF6600GT and this one could run BF2 on medium settings and 1024*768 quite well. Also going from 512MB to 1GB, when i upgraded the card, made a big difference in the loading times and the stuttering in the ~first minute on the map was gone too. CPU was an AMD 2800+ @ ~2,1GHz.

Shader model 3 is what you're thinking of and yes the 6xxx series has it. I know that since I waited a little while to get my 6800GS instead of an ATI X800GT GTX GTRX whatever, irrelevant at this point.
I have 2 Gigs of RAM and an 8800GTS 640, but only an Athlon 3700+ so that may be a slight bottleneck, but not much...
I didn't make it!
this is a n00b quest...
were i can find my Computer settings (Video card etc)
Start > Run > type "dxdiag" into the box. dxdiag opens and gives you all you wanted to know.
