Not knowing anything about how the 'guts' to the BF games work, I am wondering if maps will have to be redone from scratch, or just cleaned up a bit.

Certain maps I would like to see redone completely. I have not played around with it myself yet, but some maps (several of the old 'vanilla' BF1942 maps) are quite poor. In particular, the Omaha beach map seems way too narrow, the epic 'D-Day' battle should be recreated with a more interesting map. (I have made maps for Microsoft Train Simulator before, but I am not quite as big a WWII expert so I am the wrong person to try myself)

Obviously you haven't played this current version of FH, or haven't noticed. FH currently has a re-done Omaha map plus another D-Day beach map in the form of Gold Beach.

I did play the Omaha map, have not tried the latter though. I did not notice huge differences int he Omaha map but it has been a few months since I touched the vanilla version.

I really dont like it when people come in here and tell us how to map the maps, when they havent even played most of the mod's maps. Ive seen this done before, and I look at it like, "HELLO", keep in mind, this mod is nothing like the vanilla version and until you have experienced the mod, dont start making suggestions.

I second that. Your enthusiasm is much appreciated and your willingness for constructive criticism is great but it would be best if you plug away a few hours playing the mods, ok more than a few, but you get what I mean, play the maps first or atleast create an empty server and give them a thorough check. The current FH map Omaha Charlie is a great map. My only concern with the map which I had never voiced was this. While watching a special on the D-Day landings there was alot of attention paid to the Omaha beach landings. First hand accounts from Omaha veterans were given whilst walking the beach itself. My only squabble is, the landing went so bad because the swimming tanks created for the D-Day landings, for the Omaha sector were launched 3 miles offshore in rough seas and therefore never touched land but sank, so there was no armor support for the infantry on the landing, but first also the rocket artillery strikes launched from offshore fell short of the beach and therefore didn't either soften the targets on the mainland as well as did not create any craters on the beach for the invading infantry to use for cover as was the plan because of the landings taking place during low tide. If you play the FH version of Omaha there are plenty of craters and I just often wondered if these were put there for gamesake purposes because without those it would be more difficult to advance up the beach.

I had a feeling I would get this reaction. This was not at all a complaint, in fact none of you have totally answered my question - "..I am wondering if maps will have to be redone from scratch, or just cleaned up a bit." - and by clean up, I didnt mean make it 'better', but rather conform to any standards that BF2 may differ from BF1942 in.

Most of my criticism is being leveled with EA, NOT the FH dev team. Please do not take my remarks out of context.

Honestly dude I don't think anyone really knows just yet since EA have been a bunch of slackdog lackey's when it comes to releasing the MDK, it's been postponed from being released before the retail game to being released at the same time as the retail game to now being released at the end of June, so it's anyone's guess at this point.

The scale of maps for BF2 seems much larger as compared to FH2 or maybe it's just my brain playing tricks on me I don't know.

We don't know for sure, but it seems like every map will have to be redone from scratch. There is nothing to prevent a mapper from copying the layout of one of their BF1942 maps, but that is up to the mapper.

Rumour has it that the heightmap will port over and thats it.

But due to the different map scales the height map will then be off from what the map used to be.

So in effect yes the mappers will have to start from scratch.
