Classes such as the tank commander get random loadouts. Most get a pistol, but a lucky few get an SMG.

Devs have mentioned that more random loadouts are going to be implemented in the future, including German Assault classes sometimes getting Panzerfausts, and US Marine Engineers either getting Winchester Shotguns or M1 Carbines.

I personally do not like the idea of wondering what weapons I'll be spawning with, or being taken out by a guy that was merely lucky enough to spawn with a better weapon loadout for his class. I believe that while it would be fun to use the different weapons, I'd much rather be able to choose which weapon I'm using all on my own, rather than leave it up to chance. While a real soldier wouldn't always get to choose what weapon he used, he also couldn't always choose what "class" he was either. If random loadouts are supposed to be implemented for "realism" then why aren't we ditching classes altogether, and make everything random? If random loadouts are just an attempt to get more weapons on the battlefield, why not give us more spawn classes, as BG42 has done with six spawn classes?

What does anyone else think?

I like random loadouts. When it is done correctly. If you are expecting to spawn with a pistol and you wind up with a SMG you are happy, no one would argue that you got lucky. If you spawn as assault and you wind up with the addition of a panzerfaust to your kit you are happy, no one would argue you got lucky. However, if you were expecting a carbine and you got a shotgun . . . . . well a shotgun may not be suited to what you wanted to do . . . . . . same goes in reverse. Shotgun and SMG are more interchangable . . . . . I support random loadouts but this one is a little questionable

I like it, it adds variety and sort of simulates the fact that a soldier sometimes didn't know what kind of weapon would be assigned to him.

Being unhappy with which weapon you got shouldn't be a problem unless the weapons you have a chance of getting are radically different from one another, which in my opinion isn't a good decision by whoever designed the kits. I don't want to spawn into a close quarters fight expecting a SMG and wind up with a rifle, for example.

exactly, if i expect a rifle and end up with a shotgun, im not gunna be happy. if i choose a assault and expect a rifle, ill be happy with a better rifle. if random weapons are done properly itll be good fun. but if its not, i wont be happy

IMO, restricted randomness is good. Giving the Marine a random chance of getting a shotgun or Greaser is not a bad idea. Giving the Germans a random chance of spawning with a panzerfaust is not only fun, but realistic.

The two other big mods, BG and DC, use the 6 class system. Why FH isnt too is beyond me.

for christ sakes guys, were not going to randomize EVERY weapon in EVERY class. Jeeze, you make it sound like we're planning on giveing riflemen a chance to get SMGs and shotguns. Honestly guys. We're not that retarded. Randomizing weapons is to give more variety and flavor into infantry combat. You were expecting a k98, but hot damn, you got a spiffy g43 (which is better in every way). It also lets us give more equipment to each class, instead of unrealisticly leading up a class, or making seperate subclasses. Like giving engineers a chance to spawn with satchels or mines, or support a chance to spawn with an LMG or deployable MG. If you got mines when you wanted satchels, tough shit. Make lemonade out of them.

I dunno why we're not using the 6 class system yet, but it's being discussed in our forums. Hopefully we'll get it in, so we can stop sacrificing classes (support, engineer, etc etc) I think the 6 class system buggers up the bots, but I'm sure we can work out a 5 class system for bot play.
